Think about this.........

So I was just reading a few things on the s55's and whether or not they were going to come out, etc. I started thinking about how I have always been impressed with the quality of Ping irons (I know there are some Ping haters out there). BUT think about this........

What if Ping re-made the old Eye 2's, which are probably the greatest selling iron of all time, with modern lofts, conforming grooves like the eye 2 xg wedge, and modern shafts like the kbs and project x? How many of you guys would buy them? I know I would and I believe alot of others would as well. I still know PLENTY of people that still play their eye 2 irons, and would jump all over a brand new set if they had the chance.

ping has gotten so good at their perimeter weighting, that they don't need that high toe hammer dog look anymore current models are much more pleasing to the eye at address. granted they do have those plug ugly badges in the back, but i dont look at the back of my club when I am addressing the ball in an attempt to hit it

I believe that the only folks who'd seriously consider them would be folks who either still play a set, or want a set for nostalgia. $900+ for a set of nostalgia clubs is pretty steep. The geometry of the clubs is such that I don't think you'd attract anyone to the PING brand with those clubs - only throw a bone to your existing fans. Bone throwing rarely pays the bills, unfortunately.

I started a thread on this topic a year ago. I would love a set say 4-GW w/ CFS as stock option at $599. It wouldn't outsell the G series irons, but since Ping is a private company, they can do whatever they want. And they have done plenty worse before.

50th Anniv. Gold G10s. I know they came out with those with the intention of selling 687 million sets right? Yup, thats what I thought too. I think they sold 2 sets of those nationwide. Actually, I think its really only 1 set. :blush2:

When it comes to Ping, of course they want to be profitable when they market a line but they've proven in the past that that's not the driving force of motoring up the production line. It's about making good stuff, celebrating their history, and this idea of new, conforming Eye2's is a perfect time to blend the past with the future. Theyve already come out with the wedges!!!!! So what's the holdup Ping???? Finish the set and make it happen!! Maybe it's because China screwed up the wedges so bad they're afraid the same thing would happen. They should just make new wax patterns and cast them in Phoenix.

I don't think so. How many sets of Ping Eye 2's are out there - millions? How easy are they to reshaft with whatever you want? how many sets have stronger "modern" lofts anyway? How many have conforming grooves anyway? And how easy are they to refurbish as new?
Here are just a few reasons why Ping have no intention of bringing out a revamped set of Eye 2's. No doubt, they are one of the best irons sets produced in history, but Ping are also quite right in being a progressive thinking company as well. If you really want a set badly enough, there has never really been a problem obtaining a set within the last 20 years to my knowledge. Why would Ping need to produce any more? The same would apply to any other OEM of a "classic" model. If you want them, buy them - simple enough.

They need to redo it for conforming grooves. You can't send in an old set of Eye2s and have Ping regroove them with conforming grooves. It's all about the grooves.
