Amateur swings vs Hogan: picking out the Hogan traits and Old-school era traits

Recommended Posts

Ok...here ya go TeeAce.

This would be a good place to put up your swing and hg101 to pick out and discuss the Hogan traits. I have a wager going that hg101 does have the golf balls to post his swing and have an educated discussion about it. Man......I hope I don't lose the bet!!

And for anybody else out there...post your swing so we can pick the Hogan out of it. Some of my favs are tofur99, tylerdurden, ajc57.

And about my swing, the only Hogan trait I see is my bowed left wrist at and after impact....and no I am not trying to bow it, and I don't know how it bows.

Man I'm lovin it TeeAce!!! Way to go in putting your swing up. Wasn't it easy? lol. It didn't hurt at all.
So, what Hogan traits do you see in your own swing?

And I should have prefaced this thread by saying that not everyone here is trying to swing like Hogan; some guys may just enjoy yapping about the guy, but even so, you might still have some type of Hogan traits happening.

BHSP : Your impact area is pretty good with nice upper body synch. Just need to drive with the pivot!
Yep. I know exactly what you mean. But I gotta fix some other stuff waaaaay before I get to the the pivot part. Another trait I see in my swing (been workin on it for few weeks now) is the right leg kickstand.

What's more important is have you figured out how not to hit the ground hard while still looking at the ball head-on (not down)?

Nope. Not yet. Not doing anything with the 2nd part of the swing from transition onward. Everything you see from my transition (or lack of transition) to the end is with no swing thought. I'm just moving to the finish. Can't even think about the 2nd half cause I still don't like the first part of my swing.

What will posting your swing prove? Nothing. It just gives everyone something to critique and talk about. People will laugh at it and will then forget about it in about 3 minutes. Looks like you're worried that your swing won't match what you are typing. And it doesn't cause I've seen it. But again, nobody will give a care lol.

Yup it doesn't. Never claimed it. And nobody even gets close to Hogan, even the Tour players who practices the whole day everyday, much more the best minds and teachers and instructors out there. But geez, Teeace obviously hasn't even learned something from Hogan, no wonder as he calls out even Hogan himself.

My current swing is a LOOOOT better than the one you saw though (1 year ago, at that time it was 4 months old IIRC), which I did let you peek thru PM. Too bad you didn't kept in private the fact that I showed it to you. And I am improving a LOOOOT faster because I really did change the whole enchilada, the whole method, I listen to those who really know thru either direct channels from Hogan and to those that I consider has the mind in it, has actually either played at a high level and won multiple times, can see in their swings that they really understand what they're saying, and of course my own personal judgment of their methods.

Not saying I got Hogan...nor sniffs him, nobody does, but what Teeace are saying I disagree many times, which is perfectly ok with me, no problem. But to call people that disagree idiotics? C'mon BHSP, you certainly wouldn't try learning from that kind of person.

So, no hard feelings, but its a year already and you're still in the takeaway?

Here's my swing and I'm feeling very good about where it's going. I'm not chasing Hogan at all, I want something I can repeat (read simple) that is worth repeating (read accurate + powerful).

The video above I literally feel like I am chipping my hybrid and driver because I was testing new action and I can't do it at full speed. My full speed is fast enough for 5'7" 162lbs (~115-120mph) but highly wild. Major light bulbs went off in my head today though. I think I realized Hogan's real secret - the specific process in which he encorporated changes. If you build on a good foundation there aren't a whole lot of options. Onion peals back. That's what I'm trying to go because I need it to repeat.

HG, I'm sorry man, but I rather not read about 'internet quarrels'. Just thought I'd ask because I see familiar names on topics, figured it'd be a nice way to contribute - that's all. Everyone knows a golf swing is a never-ending project. Even Hogan himself said he only hit a few shots a round that went 'his specifically as planned'. :dntknw:

Here's the thing with HG101 and to HG101 -

He doesn't agree with a lot of guys about a number of things. He raises interesting points that are worth consideration. Either he's wrong and you understand your position better because he challenged it in a (sometimes) intelligent (dismissive ;)) way, or he's right and you're better off. So it's a win-win, even if (I guess because) there's battles in the middle.

I'd like to see HG101's swing too, but I don't think it matters much. I'd just like to see his just like I'd like to see everyone elses. I don't have cable. Y'all have no idea how much swing videos I watch. It's embarassing. I NEED CONTENT!!

Thanks man. Me too, I miss making birdies lol. You know, as a quick side note, I haven't practiced short game or putting at all in the past 3 months working on so much swing stuff, and that area of my game is the best it's ever been. I don't get it but I sure like it. I have 1 little feel with pitching/chipping a couple setup keys and I'm golden. And ever since I read dave stockton's book I go completely brain dead with my putter. Just a sniper in the wind ;)

What the rationale for the ball back (nearer the R foot) and strong L hand grip? That is a simple setup thing and you've got exactly opposite of what Hogan said and did. Stop using Hogan's name!

What? Your ball is nearer the R heel than the L, your foot stance is open, and your L hand grip is strong. That why you didn't show the ball on the camera? C'mon, let's have good faith in here.
No it's not. It's just inside of the right heel. And my left thumb is just at the top of the shaft but DF makes the grip looking stronger than it actually is.

As a noob not wanting to fuel the fire or anything. It could be the camera angle but it does appear the ball is off the right foot, at 25 sec or so I was looking.

The swing does not look very Hogan to me but I didn't think that was the point of him posting it in the first place? In any event, looks repeatable and quite game able to me.

This thread does interest me, I'll try to be quick, in the 90's I was in my 20's and taught myself with the hogan 5 book. Of course I am no Hogan and in between there and here I have had some swing coaching. I do think I have maintained whatever motion I learned way back when though. Maybe I can post my own swing some time soon, I have never used film as a teaching aid for myself and don't really care to see my hack tbh, haha.

I think my kid has a camera good enough to post up something tight, might be fun to let you guys tare me down.

What part do you consider Hogan like Teeace?
