I mean, hey-suz christe is it getting negative on here.

What happened the last few months??

One has to essentially wade through a ton of BS and personal attacks to find anything about actual clubs.

I think I might nearly be done.

this place isn't negative at all, you jerk

In all seriousness....i don't think it's all that different from when i joined in 2008. There has always been a decent amount of negativity and personal attacking, the same topics rehashed time and time again. etc. I dont think it's possible to have an online forum that is 100% class and intelligent postings. People get crazy and puffy chested online because it's way easier to do then in real life. It can be a stress reliever even for people who get yelled at all day at work or what have you

It's not going to change. If you don't like the place the way it is now. You should leave

This, there's some stuff that is lame sometimes, but overall it's pretty fun.

To be fair to the OP its REALLY bad right now. Im used to the usual: the seasons winding down frustration, or the usual: winters almost over but we aren't playing yet frustration, but what's going on right now isn't normal.

I'm in the middle of something right now because someone got into it with a few of the more experienced members and went out of his way to call me out in a completely different thread for no other reason than he didn't like my post count. I dunno about you but that seems absolutely absurd to me.

It comes in waves..... It's worse now since the mods aren't shutting down threads like they used to...... a while ago people were whining that the mods were too strict and quick to shut stuff down, you know all the complete misunderstanding of rights and what not. They've eased up and now there's a lot more more crap to wade through.

It's pretty annoying

You gotta admit - 5,242 posts is a pretty lame post count. Any post count in the 5,240's is lame for that matter. Do yourself a favor and get that count above 5,250 if you want to avoid further ridicule.
I came for the gear but stayed for the comedy.

I've only been on here for about 10 months and even in that time you'll notice that things seem to be cyclical or follow certain trends.

Equipment section will always be "most forgiving blades" or "low spinning bombing drivers", etc

Tour talk will always have the Euro v PGA thing (which is diabolical in Ryder Cup years) with splashes of love/hate Tiger.

Style section will always have Jeans/Shirts tucked in/white belts/outfits (frigging outfits!!?? We're playing golf not rehearsing a low budget version of Rent)

Etiquette and Rules will always has the slow play issue.

Personally, I stay away from these topics and loiter around the General Golf/19th hole/ areas and sometimes the Classic Golf section (I've got a thing for wood at the moment)

There are blokes that are worth following such as MtlJeff, Thrillhouse, Isaacbm, Kymar, Vindog, Madgolfer, Jaskanski, The Gatchet, mat562 (where ever he may be) just for the pure comedy element and they know their arses from their elbows (even though some of these are Canadian).

So, really it depends on what you want from this site.

Oh, and Jack Pearsal. Can't believe I forgot JP.

I agree it has been worse recently than I can remember. As for that other guy in that other thread I think I'm one of the guys he also took offence with. Never mind about him Thrill, he clearly has a 3 wood stuck where the sun don't shine!

The problem I always see is you get one person in a thread who doesn't understand the meaning of a constructive argument/debate and starts to make it personal. As soon as that happens, the whole thing blows up.

This site actually gets brought up a lot at work, I always get a few laughs from the pros at the course when I show them the "I'm a 15 hdcp but my ball striking is good so what are the most forgiving blades" or "I'm a 15 hdcp "x" irons really helped my dispersion" threads

Two words: Ryder Cup
That thread and most related threads were dreadful with personal attacks and blame throwing. The worst part was that the majority of the Euros, I thought, were gracious for the first three days, but a few of us colonials couldn't handle losing on Sunday, then the back and forth got going.
Another thing that has bogged down into a quagmire is Hogan's Heroes. HoganGolf101, and his many aliases, has made nearly every thread unreadable with petty bickering.
But, I'm sure it comes and goes.
One thing I have noticed, though, is a parallel with some triathlon message boards. Beginner Triathlete is very positive and touchy-feely, but you will see the same info/advice over and over again. On the flip side is Slowtwitch, which attracts some pros and elite age-groupers, and tends to be snarky. I see GolfWRX more like Slowtwitch - really good players, but egos often go with the territory.

Two things....

1) I ignore half the site because it contains a bunch of hair pulling slap fights. Stuff in the cooler section, and tour talk just don't do it for me.

2) some guys on here love to argue for the sake of argument, because they are always right, and you will never prove them otherwise (even though you can, they won't admit defeat). I have learned who they are and made a conscious decision not to bother arguing/debating with them. Just not worth the time.

I find myself posting less in general these days just because there is a certain amount of turnover in membership, and the same topics tend to rehash. You can only answer "what's the most forgiving blade" so many times.

I guess that was three things. Sorry

I once had a guy make fun of a comment i'd made over a year earlier in a fairly uneventful thread. I didn't even remember making it honestly and it wasn't even crazy or anything. I had said that i didn't think Joe Lacava's decision to leave DJ for Woods was super clear cut, because at the time Woods was really struggling and DJ looked to be a regular contender with a chance to break through. Over a year later in a thread about Sean Foley, a guy responded to a joke i made about Foley by saying something like (i'm paraphrasing) "remember last year when you said Lacava shouldn't leave DJ, how'd that work out for you idiot" or something like that. I honestly didn't know how to respond. He then responded with a ridiculous over the top comment in another thread to something i wrote with "your posts are worthless trash and have always been trash, stop wasting people's time blah blah blah" i can't even remember the rest. But it was in responses to a fairly benign post where i didn't even say anything controversial.

to this day i have no idea what set the guy off

Not sure who said it above, but I do enjoy reading the posts about the guys who have abnormal ballstriking capabilities, but "struggle on the greens." Usually the negative dudes are the ones who know it all. Probably mad they didn't make it on the Nationwide Tour or Web.com or whatever it's called.

It's not a fetish, it's a way of life. Combine that with photos of 690mb's at address including the guys feet, then I'm gonna explode.

But seriously.... It's got to better than grown men arguing over Jeans on a course or Euro v PGA.
