Finish on Project X

When did it change?

I have been receiving a bunch of new irons lately and noticed that the finish on the Project X has gone from the distinct satin finish to a generic shiny finish. At first I thought this was just on the new Callaway flighted projects, but then got a set of r7TPs and r7 Forged the other day with regular project X and their finish was shiny as well. Does anyone know when they switched finish----after the sale of the company maybe? Thanks.

It's been within the past month. I tried to get my hands on a few sets prior to the switch, but was a bit too late. Now I have a mix-n-match of satin and chrome PX's.

Yes- as of 11/1- all PX shafts will be bright chrome. Sorry for your disappointment but there are a couple good reasons.
1) The consistency of the brushed finish is impossible to duplicate. Not saying it was impossible for TT to duplicate what RP was doing, it is impossible to get any kind of consistency from one manufacturing lot to another- even when RP was making the shafts. And TT is taking the annual volume of this shaft from 10's of thousands to 100's of thousands.
2) Chrome is much more durable- no one will ever have to worry about the finish corroding or pitting.

Hope everyone can understand. If you really like the look, stock up through the distributors or move to Tour Concept irons.

Thanks for the info. Hate the shiny look. Guess I will go on a hunt for old sets. By the way having owned 10+ sets of PX I never had any rust or pit and sure didn't notice any variation of note in the finish from set to set.

Thats really a shame. The finish was so unique... but I guess it doesnt matter if the number of PXs on the course increases dramatically. You would end up bleding into the "brushed majority"...

I will just relish the remaining 2 years my shafts should do the trick for me.
