Klipper, open play for civilians now?

Is the Klippler open to civillian play unaccompanied by a military player?

That would be nice.

I believe you'll still have to have a "sponsor" to get on base and clearance from the Pro Shop. Klipper is a great place to play...although at times it can be the absolute longest round of your life due to the skill level in front. The other problem for many..the line to get on base checking in your automobile and your drivers license. If anything I wish Navy Marine would open up play. You could skip the gate clearance and play another great military course in the middle of town.

I just played Klipper on Friday, 2 days ago. You can call the pro shop for a tee time as a civillian up to 4 days before Mon thru Thurs anytime and Fr thru Sun after 1pm. They put your name on the tee sheet they give to the base gate staff. When making your time they will ask you for your driver's license #, phone #, and ss #. According to the pro shop staff, they become your sponsor if you are a civillian.

We were lucky as hardly any players were on the course 11am so we played it in 3hrs 45min.

Everything did not go as planned though, because when we got to the base gate office, they could not find our names on the tee sheet. We were told then that we need to call the pro shop and get a pro shop staff member to come to the gate to "sponsor" us. I called and told the shop guy what happened. After being on hold for over 15 min the shop guy said the base gate people found our names. Good thing we got there early.

The course was in good condition, with only a few soggy fairway areas. The greens were very good. Pace of play was excellent compared to the 3 other times I played there that were excruciatingly slow

The earliest civilians can call to reserve tee times are 4 days in advance, after 12pm. That's a little side stipulation.

The second thing is that you have to call 5 days in advance to submit your personal information to the pro shop so you can be put on the base access list. Again, stipulation.

The thing I like to tell people is to call 5 days before the day you want to play, check with us for the availability of the time slots you want and submit your information that same day. Call back the day after and get those slots. It's a rough cycle, but it's all policy.

You can reserve for any time that you want on Monday through Thursday, but for Fridays/Weekends/Holidays, civilian reservations start after 1pm.
