I need a new job

Im still in school, have worked in the wireless industry for over 5 years. Been at my current place of employment for a little over 4 years. I have no idea where to start looking!!!! I do not however have a degree quite yet still will be another year or so...

What to do

keep doing what you're doing until you get the degree. participate in your school's OCI, or if there's another more "name brand" school in the area that attracts more employers, participate in their OCI and functions as well. It's not a good idea to be switching jobs all over the place unless you're actually getting good experience. it's only another year until you get the degree, and that piece of paper is worth its volume in gold. stay put until you get the degree, when you'll be in a much better position to command a) a better job and b) higher salary.

I would generally agree with the above, except, college jobs are viewed a little different than career jobs in the sense of jumping around (mostly because recruiters understand college jobs are temporary). With that said, I think your best bet is to stay where you are at until you get your 'career' job with your degree. I think you will have a good leg up on most college candidates if you can show that you stayed with the same employer for 4-5 years. Most college kids jump around and have multiple jobs throughout college. I know a big sticking point that I was able to talk about when I interviewed (5 years ago... god time flies) was that I had maintained the same job from high school throughout most of college... and I was just a cashier at a retailer. Either way, it shows that you are a employable person. You are loyal and obviously the employer felt you were reliable and had good work effort.

If you are a year from graduating you should only be looking for one job and thats the job you want when you graduate. I know I had my job locked down 12 months prior to graduation. The employer I currently work at generally puts offers out 8-10 months before people graduate. I would get on that horse sooner rather than later.

I agree with starting to look for a job now. Internship maybe?
Having a viable resume coming out of college can be of value.

Is there something you want to do? What's your degree in? It's tough to offer advice if you just want a job.

Companies don't care if you haven't actually graduated yet. I got my job when my resume said "Degree to be awarded on..."

My current degree is in engineering, which I'm just looking to get my associates degree in and move on. I am not one that is extremely big into school. I am just getting really over my current job an really just want to something different. The plan is to be able to graduate a year from now but we all know how that goes!! I'm really not sure on what I would want to do. I wish I could work with something golf related while I'm in school but of course then I probably wouldn't make 40k working part time like I do now... Depressing!!
