Torn between sports?

Recommended Posts

anyone else have problems
I'm torn between 2 sports. i play baseball at a very high level and love it. But i am alway inbetween my golf swing and baseball swing. it sucks. I am starting to think that i like golf better but i dont know. I think that i could be even better at one of the sports if i didn't play as much of the other one.
Anyone else have problems like this?

lead tape & Taylormade TP5X's

Well you have to weigh your options. I've been there, and its tough. Ask yourself whats more important: Playing in a more social environment with your boys? Competition? Do you want to play in college?

If you have any desire to play at the next level I would strongly advise specializing in that sport.

Good luck

I gave up baseball for that reason, the different mechanics were killing me, so i decided i can golf for the next... 60 years in my life, or play baseball for around another 6-20 years(YES I WOULD have gone pro! ;) :) :drinks: So the decision is ultimatly yours, maybe play baseball, then later return to golf, or just decide which you like better... idk the decison is yours.

I have the same problem, im good at baseball but i think i would have a better shot at going to college for golf, and i kind of get burnt out on baseball after along time and with golf i dont get burnt out at all i could play forever..so that and the swing differances is wut im basing my desicion on to quit baseball. im only a freshman and dont want to mess my swing up for good.

I struggled with this same problem when I was a little younger...like 12. I was a good basbeall player and worked very hard with it....camps in the summer and lessons in the winter, etc. I made the all-star team as an 11-year old, and didn't play tons. I didn't make the team as a 12 year old (prob. should have cause they didn't really have a catcher, but w/e) when the team went all the way to the world series, and was able to play golf all summer, including some tournaments, and I loved it. Had I been on the all star team, I would have played no golf. After that season is when I stopped playing baseball and focused on my golf. So, I was lucky enough to basically have the decision made for me. It's amazing how things that seem bad at first can turn out to be good ones. So, sooner or later you'll have to make a decision but take the shots as they come for now. And just make sure you don't regret your decision. I can't say I don't miss baseball, but I enjoy golf much more. It's the pitching and catching...the strategy aspects...that I miss most. The hitting I don't really miss that much.

So, my advice to you is think about your decision and choose the best one for you. Golf is a lifetime game, so remember that. I was lucky enough to have the decision made for me, at first seeming bad, but the bad turned out to be a great thing because I am loving the golf I am playing. Just make sure you don't regret the decision you make.

Hope this little anecdote helps...

I had the same problem with the same sports. like others have said it really depends on what you want to do with that sport. Can you make it to the next level? There are some questions that you have to ask yourself.

I decided I was going to play golf this year over baseball, which I was pretty good at. I knew it was bad last year when at one game I swung a bat a couple times with my interlocking grip not even knowing it. I started slicing once because I had a flying right elbow caused by having my elbow up in the baseball swing.

It also depends on how supportive your parents are.

Good luck with your decision.

Just a quick question to rabid...

Why on earth would you chose Golf over Baseball if you were going to go pro!?!?

You have a 5 month offseason to play golf all you want with millions of dollars in the bank lol.

thats what i would say.... pick what your best at and stick with it cause you going to suck at both if you dont choose

I had the same decision last year in 8th grade. I was deciding wether or not to go and play varsity golf or play modified baseball. And I thought about and I hated giving up baseball I miss playing it. But during practice for baseball I was thinking about how much I wanted to be playing golf, so in the end I went with golf and love it. But it's up to you and depends on what your good at and which you get more enjoyment out of. Personally I like golf and can play all day and not get bored. Mind you I was far from amazing at baseball but I didn't suck ethier.

So good luck with whatever you choose.

Had to make the same decision Freshman year of high school. My friend and I were both really good baseball players and really good golfers. We ended up choosing golf, won four straight league titles, and we both now play in college (unfortunately the baseball program didn't do as well). It's a totally personal choice, but for me, I knew being a golfer and dedicating 100% of my time to golf, would take me places baseball wouldn't. Just my personal opinion. In the end, you need to pick the sport you love, and not necessarily the sport you're best at. If you're at the golf course thinking of baseball, or at the diamond thinking of golf, then you should defintely think about which sport means more to you.

I decided that I couldnt play just one, I play golf and baseball. I dont really have any problems with the swings messing up each other. They're not really that different. I've always thought playing baseball, swinging with a 30 oz. bat, helped my SS with a golf club. But thats just me. I would say play both unless you think you have a chance to go pro or get a full ride to a D1 school for either sport. Otherwise just have fun playing a couple sports that you love.

i've actually had the same kinda problem. my whole life i've been really into hockey but i picked up golf a couple of years ago and recently have started competing on the ajga and in local events. I think that im pretty good at both and im wondering if maybe i focused on just one sport a little more i might be able to compete at the D1 level.

ive thought about it a lot and really cannot decide which i like more. what i think im just gonna do is try to play both the the best of my ability and actually try to go to a D3 school in new england so i can play both golf and hockey at the same time. i think thats better than focusing on just 1 sport and it maybe not working out or something like that. this way im keeping both of my options open.

ps. i will admitt its tough to transition to golf from hockey. in the winter im used to getting pissed off and hitting ppl and in golf ur dead if u lose ur temper and play angry. plus the slap shot is terrible for a good golf swing.

I'm in the same boat. Hockey and Golf... I did start to like golf a little bit more this past year because I started playing in tournaments but the one thing I have against me regarding golf is that I live in Quebec... Its though to maintain the golf game during the winter especially when you consider the level of hockey I'm playing... But hey, I'll play both until one of them can assure me a good life!

I played a couple different sports, but during the summer I only play golf, because I've never really been that good at anything else. I've been decent, above average even, but I'm a better golfer so I chose that. I used to play hockey and so I had the messed up golf swing/slapshot for a while at the beginning and end of hockey season. I've since stopped playing hockey, and now I swim during the offseason... no conflicts there for the motions of both sports lol :drinks:

Good luck with your choice. :ok:
