Custom fitting for juniors

has this happened to anyone?
Hi, i am 15 and like 5'10. Last spring i got a set of i5's(black dot). When i got them it seemed as though i needed them about 1* or 2* flat. Now as winter is finally passing i am realizing that i should probably have them more upright and maybe +1/2in. I never made any changes to the clubs but is it a good idea to have your clubs custom fitted when your still growing? It seems to me that you would have to get them changed as you grow. What do you think i should do, get them fitted now and hope i dont grow, or not get them fitted and play with the wrong clubs? If anyone has any experience with this stuff please let me know what is the best thing to do.

It doesn't cost much at all to bend a set and add plugs for added length. There would be no reason not to have your set periodically checked. You can do this when you go to regrip (one to three times a year). Most of us also make small swing changes as our games progress will also necessitate having clubs checked. Increases in clubhead speed are different and more costly but you'll probably need a new set every year to two years if you play alot so you can order your shafts when you change out your irons.

It depends, are you willing to POSSIBLY spend a few $ every year for about 2 or 3 years tweaking your set to help you achieve (or you might not grow any more and be completely fine), or would you rather save your hard earned money and buy a set of really nice clubs when you stop growing.

This is a bit of the chicken or the Egg question in terms of do I want to get fit now but have to change a year later, or wait it out and deal until then. You're going to have to make a decision but important factors to consider:

1) Are you a guy who might switch irons every year or do you find one set and play them till the grooves are gone? Remember if you like the i5 now but improve greatly, you might want a set of blades or something in a year.

2) What is your financial position? Could you get them adjusted every year? If you've got the money to spend its less of a problem and if not then you've got to be careful.

3) How competitive are you? I'd say the higher your competitive level the better fit you need to have, or are you a recreational golfer who plays 5 on the high school team (not that you do or that there's anything wrong with that).

I have gotten fit as a junior, and have a pretty good relationship with some guys who work at a custom shop in my area. They understand I am growing, and keep that in mind when fitting me. My clubs usually last me, and unless there is a glaring need for new, what usually needs to get changed is my shafts. My irons last me, and all that really needs to be done is change shafts at the beginning of the year based on increased swingspeed.

I'm 20 now and no longer a Jr. but i had a similar problem the last couple of years. i had a couple drivers that after about 3 months i would start to over power and it was the same thing with shafts especially if i bought then in the fall and got to playing on the spring again... never had a big problem with iron shaft though.

What im trying to get at is if your competitive or just trying to be the best you can be, spend a bit of money to get your irons checked and clubs refitted BUT ONLY if you go through a swing change or a growth spurt. becasue it will help trust me i know...

i guess im one of the lucky ones for a couple of reasons and one is the fact that i stopped growing after i was about 16-17. also i now own a repair shop and have done my own work for a while now so i don pay people to touch my clubs people pay me. also if you talk to fitters or shop owners in your area they might give you a deal on bending since they know you will come to them again and again.

personally i have fitted clubs for kids as young as 13 amd good player at that and i charge less then half for bending and trust me ive had to go pretty flat before (4* on a set of mizuno mp60 for a good player i know). that way i know they will be back and also i know what its like to be a kid and not making $$$$ Plus people were always nice to me and i just want to pass it on. cheers
