Distance of Putts Holed: How well did you putt today.

How well did you putt today ?

Looks like a quick and dirty way of tracking your putting performance on a day to day basis.

It helps you know how well your putting was on a round vs. the rest of your game.

This is a quick and dirty version of tracking all your putt lengths (which was alot of work and I could never actually accomplish while I was golfing).

This was uploaded by 360_CS in this post, but I thought it was so good, it deserved it's own thread. He attached a 5 Mb Word Document that I compressed to this 0.6 Mb .pdf (attached to this post). I also made an abbreviated version in the image above.

It doesn't give a penalty for four putting so it might not apply to me ! :swoon:

Thanks 360_CS !

This is some very cool stuff, thanks. I always keep a seperate score card for myself and might use this in a simple manner. I track number of putts on every hole in the box below that hole, I can easily add in the distance of the putts made. I might even add in distance of missed putts ie if it was a 3 or 6 or 9 feet etc. Might be a good way of identifing distances that I am weak at. Lots of food for thought.

I haven't tracked anything long term but on a one-round basis here and there I always found this method pretty accurate and telling.

TSR2 (3w / 7w) (Graphite Design Tour AD IZ-7)

I track feet of putts made.

The difference between what I do and this method:

Any third putt counts as zero.

I count tap ins as one footers, not two footers.

I count the total distance of every long putt.

I smooth it out by keeping a ten round average.

The nice thing about the above is it gives a reference for how good one is vs. other similar handicap golfers, although it's not clear to me how he determines that number.

Clever idea; but does not really tell you much more than counting number of putts. On average let's say you get 7 or 8 points for one-putts, 3 or 4 points for two-putts, and -1 to -2 points for three-putts. Basically lose 4 points for every additional putt.

I do, but it's part of a much more broad system of tracking based on the strokes gained method invented by Mark Broadie. Here's a thread I wrote about it, and various other threads where people developed their own spreadsheets to track data in their own way. It's pretty complex if you're only interested in tracking putt lengths...

Here's the original thread on strokes gained which led me to develop a spreadsheet:

http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1089289-ive-gone-100-to-strokes-gained-for-stats-from-tee-to-green-heres-how/

Here's the thread I created about a spreadsheet to track the strokes gained information:

http://www.golfwrx.c...strokes gained

There are several threads linked in that thread where people developed their own spreadsheets or other ways to track the data. Hope this helps...

Personally, I just started tracking my proximity to the hole from all shots around the green. (GIR, scrambling, sand save) and based on my prox plus the amount of putts I can see if I putt like butt or not.

Perfect example, two weeks ago, I had 9 GIRs and of those 9, my average proximity was 26'. Of those 9, 5 were three putts, 1 one putt and the rest were two putts. Clearly, an awful round of putting but to dive a little further, my scrambling and sand save proximity were both 8'. I made 2 of 6 scrambles and 0 of 3 sand saves. I don't have my scorecard but if I did, I could go even further and figure out what putts I missed and what feet they were so I could practice that particular length, etc, etc...

I have only started doing this recently and I really like it. Clearly the above example was an awful round of putting and it's clear cut and dry, haha.

Made more putts on vacation than I've made in a long time. I'm super optimistic about the upcoming season.

Post your chart or whatever you use.

Could help others with their stat tracking :)

I decided to create a spreadsheet to calculate this for everyone. It can be found at this dropbox link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/we032hndzassl8z/Distance%20of%20putts%20holed%20worksheet.xlsx?dl=0

The cells in green are designed to be input cells. Others have formulas in them and shouldn't be changed. If you don't want to use rows 2,3, and 4 (you really don't need them) just hide them. Rows 5 and 6 are the only rows needed to calculate the formula and handicap rating. Hope this helps those who are interested in this.

Edit: I included the same information found in the photo of the OP as sample data.

Edit 2: Oops. Had an incorrect formula. Fixed now. Hopefully nobody got the incorrect version.

Here's the customer scorecard that I started using that I got from drewtaylor21. I modified it to fit my eye a little better but it's the same thing.

You just have to make sure to learn the three foot stride and pace off your first putt every time.

I used to use Smartphones for stats but I found that I never really used the stats so what's the point? I'd rather make a little bit more effort to manually track everything and actually use it, haha. This does that.

Just print it on an landscaped 8x10 and fold it in half and you can use it for two rounds. Do the math to figure out averages and totals and you're good to go.

This seems like a neat idea! I feel like the results might be a little scary however! :/

I have been trying this out as a quick and dirty metric lately, and the results have not good. I rarely hole more than 55ft of putts in a round. For example, my last two rounds have been 69 (-3) with 46ft of made putts, and a nine hole 35 (-1) with 19ft of made putts. Definitely an eye opener that putting is an area that needs improvement!
