Not like he really has anything left to prove. Shame Flacco effed it up at the end of the season last year, Ravens definitely could have gotten it done.
it was not flacco in that game it was the kicker missing a chip shot. and for what its worth i dont think they would have beat the Giants anyway.

I've got all the respect in the world for Ray Lewis as a football player. As a Skin's fan, wish RGIII could have squared off against him (there's an outside chance that may still happen, but not likely).

Sad to see him go, but I'll always respect him as one of the best defensive players of all time. Double murder charge notwithstanding.

This might belong in the "Who'd you rather...." thread, but here's a question.

Ray Lewis
or
Lawrence Taylor

That is a very tough one for me, as IMO these are the two best defensive players ever to play the game. Who was better? Who'd you rather have on your squad?

For those guys saying that he stabbed someone, did you bother to even read the court testimony? Granted, he was guilty of many things but stabbing someone was not one of them. So why continue? From the actual testimony:

Detective Ken Allen displayed a small knife found at the crime scene and seven .45 caliber shell casings he said were found near the victims. But forensic experts were unable to recover usable prints or blood from the knife. On cross examination one defense attorney asked, "There wasn't a hint, a speck, a scintilla of blood on that knife, was there?" Allen answered that there was no blood, DNA tests proved negative and there were no fingerprints on it."

I'm sorry to sound so strong and I don't mean any disrespect but I don't think ray Lewis is even in the conversation when you start to bring up guys like Lawrence Taylor . Ray Lewis was a awesome middle linebacker who I think greatest strength was his ability to cover guys coming out of the backfield and tight ends. He also had great leadership skills on the field . However Lawrence Taylor was a guy that would wreck an entire game. I don't think other teams would game plan and worry about ray Lewis the same way they would have to account for LT. LT was great in coverage and would chase down running backs with little gain from the other side of field . He would give QBs nightmares. LT revolutionized the outside linebacker position and forced teams to focus on the left tackle position as the most important position on the offensive line.
I think ray was really an outstanding player. But I think he falls into the second tier when it comes to the all time greats. A few guys I would put ahead of ray Lewis would be Deon Sanders, Reggie white, Bruce Smith, Mike Singletary, just to name a few and I know there is more guys that made more of an impact on opposing teams offences then Ray Lewis . And I can actually argue that Ray was not the most dangerous defensive play on his own team. I can argue that Ed Reed would actually have more of an impact on the outcome of games over the stretch of his whole career then Ray did.

And another fact , Lawrence Taylor was one of only two defensive players in NFL history to win the league MVP award. Imagine beating out all QBs and RBs to win the MVP as a outside linebacker .

If I had to rank playing ability I think the "top three" really separate themselves as best LB, D-line, and secondary:

1. L.T.
2. Reggie White
3. Deion Sanders (though I'm conflicted, as Rod Woodson was a more complete player.)

After this it gets tricky but I think Lewis is right there. I think he was a much better player than Singletary. Bruce Smith is in the conversation along with Lambert, Tatum, Lott, Woodson, and maybe even Derrick Thomas or Charles Haley.

He didn't murder or stab anyone you idiots.
That could definitively be proved

Anyway you spin it, it looks bad and needs to be considered when you reflect on his legacy. The outfit he was wearing was neer recovered, he lied to investigators, and he reache da undisclosed settlement with the victims family. I think it needs to be taken into account. I've been in my fair share of arguments and drunken debacles... No one has ended up dead. Just sayin'

Soooo he just wore gloves.... he still murdered them...

anyway you spin it, most of the common football fans that are not diehard ravens or diehard ray lewis fans feel the way I do... he either murdered people or was at least heavily involved in the murder of 2 people. I've never been fond of Ray Lewis' antics on the field and his 'emotional' speeches off the field but then again I also am not religious which may explain some of that
