For all the big hitters out there, What drivers, shafts and lofts

fairwaysRoverated

Recommended Posts

This is for all of the long drivers out there that drive 300 or more. I want to see if there's a trend of certain clubs that you guys like to use to get that distance. What brand and model driver, shaft, and loft do you use and have used in the past? Also what's your driver SS?

My max driver SS is 116, I play ping drivers and have had the following set ups. I20 8.5* TFC x stiff, anser 8* ahina diamana, and 9.5* g20 TFC stiff.

I've hit all of my longest driver with my I20, my best drive is around 315.

This is not about bragging before someone says it because I know its coming. Purely scientific data collection going on here....... I think

SS with my smoother tempo and not ripping into it more at 110 but a lower loft on a head of my choice and a ad di 6 or 7 s or x shaft depending on clubs and the setup I am trying to play....I have gone higher loft with Whiteboard type shafts which is the opposite and get somewhat of the same results and use to be around 300 after roll until a nerve issue in a arm stopped me from being able to go after it! Tinkering with shafts and lofts and heads are the only way to me to get your best results even though trackman is so highly regarded as proof in the pudding but I say not until your on the course in real playing conditions and off a range will you see exact playing specs on a club! No offense against trackman it helps determine a lot but I am a guy who likes to try stuff and ignore numbers sometimes because the numbers may have me in a club head or shaf I do not like the looks of which causes me to not perform as well with it on the course and have confidence during play! If that makes any sense!

Also....my baby......Adams 9064ld digitally measured 6.1 loft and 1 degree open......oban devotion 7, 06 flex (xx..290 cpm at 45")...ss has averaged 123 for last 13 months on trackman....spinning at around 1900 rpm....fuggin hammers the ball

hit is with so much authority

I swing between 110-115 I believe.

8.5* Adams 9015D / HD6 X Flex

In the summer when I get more roll on these baked Texas fairways I'll probably go back to the PL Red. I hit at least a handful of drives over 315 last summer because the ball would roll forever. Nothing like 260 carry and 50 yards of roll!

Ive been a consistent 290-315 guy since I was about 18 (Now almost 24)
Forgot to add** Swing speed: Last time I looked.. like 110-114. Fastest I have had it clocked ever was like 129 when I was messing around on trackman with some friends doing long drive for lunch bets at Cool Clubs back in the day lol. I remember the 129 because I caught it at like an 14* launch and i just caught one and it only spun like 1200 RPM and just floated out to like 346 to beat my buddy by 3 yards lol

All my set ups have been low loft and board shafts.. one of my favorites of all time ( L4Vx with the Creation Copper ion 80x Tipped 1/2'') I dont know what the Freq was, but it was a 2x4.

But my money stick for the last year and a half or so has been the R11 with an Accra Tour prototype M4 65 Tipped a bit, SST pured and freqed at 7.2. 44.5'' Swing weight C8.

Well it seems like there's no certain drivers that the power guys like so far. It's all over the place. Some of you guys I just wouldn't be able to play next to. The first time you would out drive me by 20 or 40 yards you might as well call my swing shot for the rest of the day because I'd be trying to come out of my shoes. lol

RAZR Fit 9.5* (square face setting, 12 in toe/2 in heel)
Diamana D+ 62x playing 45" untipped

For me, Callaway finally got the sound and impact feel right with this head. If you like a shaft with great stability but doesn't feel like rebar, 3rd gen Diamana (white or blue) is awesome.

Typically how fast of a SS do you need before going to an X-stiff shaft?

I have 107 with a quick tempo, I sometimes feel like a need something stiffer

You're right on the line between S and X. Since you've got a quick tempo, you can probably go with an X and be fine. But, it also depends on the shafts... if you get a chance, read the posts from Tom Wishon about shafts. Lots of good info and one thing he notes is that there is no standard way of measuring flex, so one company's X could be another's S.

I am playing a wishon 919 with 9 degrees of loft, 45 inches with an aldila nv 75 x stiff tipped 1" its been a fairway finder for me and still giving me good distance

I have also built a bomber set up with a maltby ke4 with 9 degrees of loft and 48 inches with a graffaloy blackbird shaft the thing flies forever but keeping it in the short stuff is rare its more of a for fun club for me

Oh my ss is low 120's

How do you even make it out of your garage? It would take me all day to decide which one to play.

To the op. SS 116-125 depending on how my body feels.

Drivers: Adams Fast 12LS 9.5 Rombax 7W06 X set to 8.5. Flat bombs with good roll.
Titleist 910 D3 9.5 Bi-Matrix Prototype X set to 8.75 (too much spin, but a great fairway finder)

ss 120-125

right now I am swinging a ping answer 10.5 ad-bb 6x tipped 1" which is about to hit the BST

I tend to find more consistent results with a higher loft and lower launching shaft
I hit lower lofted driver further but my dispersion gets wider

just ordered the callaway RFE and I am going to test out the 7m3 and 7x ad-di tipped

Sometime's it's rough. I usually have a few in my trunk that I rotate out so the choices are limited from there. I like variety, however, the 650 is my gamer right now and has been for several months- which is a long time on the "WRX watch".
