What is your favorite course in Minnesota?

What are some of your favorite courses in MN?

-my 2 favorite are TPC twin cities and The Jewel.

Easy: White Bear Yacht Club.

My list would go something like this:

1) WBYC
2) Interlachen
3) Northland CC
4) Minikahda
5) Town & Country Club
6) Hazeltine
7) Somerset
8) Golden Valley
9) Minneapolis GC

My tastes generally favor classic, quirky golf courses.

I've only played the one course in MN, the Quarry at Giants Ridge, but it was excellent and reasonably priced.

The Quarry at Giants ridge is a really great course. Has anyone played at Bunker Hills or The Jewel?

Haven't really got a chance to play too many courses up north. So for the courses I have played, I would go with Hazeltine and Dacotah Ridge. Superior National is pretty scenic and fun to play as well.

Play the Jewel in Lake City its close to the Mississippi river, it was designed by Hale Irwin, and scenic with the bluffs all around it.

Ya, you are right. I need to play that one. I have heard a lot of good things about that course and it looks awesome. Has anyone played The Wilderness at Fortune Bay? Heard that is quite the course.

I haven't but my dad has and he says it is amazing and that its one of his favorite courses in all of Minnesota.

That's what I heard too. I see you are from Blaine. I took my players ability test at Victory Links. Have you played there?

Yep I like victory links its pretty tough when I have had Junior tournaments there. I did the first tee program there which was fun. What is the players ability test?

The Players Ability Test is a test one must pass in order to enter into the PGA Professional Golf Management Program, which is a program you take if you want to become a Head Golf Professional at a golf course. It is a 36 hole event where you must shoot under a certain score in order to be able to enter the program. The score is the course rating times two, then plus 15 strokes. So typically around the 76 range per 18.

I did pass my first try. I quadruple bogied my first hole too. I was an assistant golf professional at the time in Hutchinson, but since then I took a different job managing a club in my hometown. I haven't completed the program yet.

One of my favorite courses in the US. Bombers hate it. :-)

Cool do you know any club pros around blaine?

I worked as a professional in that area for 100 years before moving to Turtleback. A great way to break the ice would be the awesome guys at Greenhaven.

I played a junior PGA tournament at Greenhaven and I liked the course. Do you know the pro from majestic, bunker, or the jewel?

I'm afraid I don't know who is there now. I worked at Bunker in the 70's, and have officiated many State Open and State High School tournaments there. Great course!

Yeah I play at bunker all the time they have a junior membership for only 200 for the summer which is an amazing deal because I played over 60 rounds there this year. Do you know the name tollete?

Dick Tollette is a friend. He was the first Professional at Bunker Hills. He helped get it going and made it what it is today. I think Dick retired just two years ago, so from late 60's to 2010 or 11. Incredible run. Great family.

Yeah I play against his grandkids in golf.

I haven't been in The Jewel or Dacotah Ridge, but that is coming this year.
As you can see, it pays to go up north.

I play at the wilds for the most part
Love town course and windsong farm
Favorite course is Mgc so far
Mystic is pretty nice I think just pretty flat
Baker national Is a fun course as well .
Still trying to get my dad to get me out on white bear yacht club though to play there's defiantly connections there

[/quote]The jewel is amazing I have had a family membership there for 8 years and I love it. But now we are moving to colorado.

My favorite was always Mississippi Dunes. A classic love it or hate course, there isn't much middle ground. I also really liked playing Gross.

Also regularly played Willingers, Chaska, Rush Creek, Edinburgh, etc. Haven't played many of the private clubs but Olympic Hills was decent.

Ive heard that Mississippi Dunes is very hard.

Mississippi Dunes is a very challenging course. i was told in the clubhouse that was basically home made by the owner who is a doctor. It has beautiful views of the river and the freight train line goes thru the course, creating a sensational image when it crosses. It links style and I have always enjoy it when the weather is 50F-70F, so I recommend to play it early in the season. Because is long and linksy in the summertime gets hard to walk. Has a lot of golfers playing in the summer also, so not always the conditions are the best ones. But is worth the trip. I prefer it to Links at Northfork, but not to Stoneridge.
Pros: Layout, clubhouse, views of the Mississippi, ball runs far on its fairways, for a nice course, price is nice too.
Cons: Upkeeping not top of the line, crowded in summer risks slow game.

The Jewel is close to the mississippi and is amazing! It is right against the bluffs and is a kind of a links course, its easy to get on too!

I live "up north" on the range. Out of the big 3 up here (Quarry, Legend and Wilderness) I really enjoy the wilderness the most. i end up playing all of them a lot for meets and practice rounds. I've played Chaska a lot and a few others in the cities when im down visiting my uncle.
