Caring for Ecco Biom Hybrid golf shoes.

Recommended Posts

I just purchased two pair of Ecco Hybrid Biom shoes, I was a bit surprised that with such a high end shoe there was no cleaning and care instructions in the box.

With my Foot-Joy leather shoes I cleaned them after every round, I used a good cleaner and I mixed in a little dubbin and worked that in around the seams.

Every couple of weeks I would give them a good spray with a silicone protectant.

I'm not sure about the Ecco shoes ,,, any suggestions ,, thanks.

Unfortunately, all the ECCO shoes fade a bit. Keep up with the polish and they should be good. Meltonian makes an exact match for the warm gray/lime punch color.

The Universal Waterproofing Spray is a joke. It's likely Scotchgard that's private labeled. I used it for a while but saw no difference from untreated shoes.

Do you know which formula of Nikwax you use? I was going to buy some at REI last week but there was a smooth leather formula, a leather and fabric formula and a suede and nubuck formula. Each of the bottles warned that it could change the color if used on the wrong leather. Also are you using the spray or sponge applicator?

Thanks!

Since the Ecco Biom Hydromax is mostly smooth leather I used the regular Nikwax for smooth leather. I used the sponge applicator since it was cheaper at the time. The key was putting a very thin layer of wax on, letting it sit for 5 minutes and then buffing the residue off. I did this three separate times. The spray might also work, but I would spray the wax into an old t-shirt and use that to wipe the shoes otherwise you might get wax all over. I used the standard white Nikwax on both my white and black Biom shoes. Nikwax makes a black-colored wax as well. The Nikwax didn't change the color of my white or black Bioms, but you can see fingerprints or a film on the black pair when you touch them. The Nikwax would probably darken some of the brown-colored Biom shoes.

Haig, would the Nikwax affect the warm grey leather? Thanks for your advice.

I'm curious on this too.

I bit the bullet and ordered the Ecco cleaner and transparent cream to treat my 2 pairs, and after a rain soaked round on Sunday, I treated my white (with green) Biom Hybrids with them. The cleaner was so-so at best, and the transparent cream seemed to soak in pretty thoroughly, but on the white it made very little difference. I'm going to bring my warm grey pair home today and clean/treat them as well with the Ecco branded stuff.

I'll report back, but I can't help but think I dramatically overpaid. It was only a $30 experiment, so I'm not bent out of shape, but I'm guessing mink oil or the Nikwax products will be superior.

I have two pairs of Ecco's, a winter pair and the Biom Hybrids for summer. They are great shoes.

I use Aquaseal leather waterproofing and conditioner, which does what it says on the tin. Does it keep the shoes looking pristine, even after years of wear? No, of course not, but it seems to be a very effective product at a reasonable price. I have had the winter pair for three years and they are still in excellent shape given how many rounds they have been used for.

My black shoes are black every other week. They stay black for 2-3 rounds after I polish them, but turn grey after that and usually stay grey... IMO my biggest complaint is not being able to wash them. Will take any advice on this!! I've played probably 140+ rounds in them and I quit wearing them when I started to smell them from my trunk while driving..
