Club head slipping --HELP.

I am looking for a little help. I have put together about 20 clubs, so I am basically a newby. I have not had this problem with any of the other clubs I have put together except my scratch sb1 pw and 8 iron. The wedges and rest of the set are completely fine and assembled with the same golf club adhesive. Any suggestions on why the club maybe doing this? Am I doing something wrong when putting them on? I made sure I did a really good job cleaning out the hosel of the club and the shaft. This is the 3rd time this has happened, and the first time they were built was done by Golf Town.

Could just be ferrule slip

If you are sure it's he head then take it apart clean everything again and reassemble using a pice of drywall tape as a shim.

Any idea how to check if it is just the ferrule? It happens when I hit off the rubber mats at the range so maybe it is the ferrule. So not enough glue on the ferrule?

Yeah ferrule slip happens a lot. See of you can spin it with your fingers. Or if you remember exactly how long the club was you could remeasure and see if the length has changed

Or just grab the grip and twist the s*** out of it while holding the head and see if it turns or breaks free

If it's just the ferrule you will be able to move it. Just pinch it lightly in your club vice and you will be able to move it with a little rotation. I'll assume it is since the other irons are fine (so far) and if you can do some right you should be able to do them all correctly.

And if its ferrule slip its an indication you didn't prep the shaft high enough. Always prep it around 1/4" above the top of the hosel so there's something for the epoxy to grab under the ferrule.

Thanks guys for your help, I will put it in the vice and see what happens. Is the only way to fix the ferrule slip by removing the head, and reprepping the shaft?

If you want to prevent it from doing it again, likely, unless you can slide it up far enough where you can prep a little of the shaft (and this is possible if it's loose enough), reepoxy and slide back down. I've seen others that have had success with Super Glue, but I've never tried it.

be sure to tension it so the shaft can't back out. Also be sure to twist the shaft when inserting to get rid of trapped air. Clean and abrade both hosel, shaft tip and the ferrule. I use alcohol before glueing. Dry well before epoxy.

Superglue is a bad idea. It loses it's grip when the item glued is frequently exposed to moisture. Use epoxy.


Shambles

I ended up using drywall tape and that has worked very well for the last month. Not sure of the longevity of it, but so far so good.

Put a small dot with felt tip above the ferrule. If it is ferrule slip it will cover the dot.
