I would play it a bit forward with my weight forward and hit down.

Isn't real wet mud usually considered standing water though and the free drop rules apply?

the trick is to not try and stick the club in the ground but instead play it forward or middle in your stance and be sure to accelerate thru the ball.

I like to put the ball just behind center, open the face slightly, and sweep it ball first. you should only graze the mud.

Keep your hips turning through the shot. When the hips stop turning, it's easy to decel and hit it heavy.

Honestly, it's safer to chip w/a flat faced club or putter in that situation.

I personally wouldn't use a lob wedge. A higher bounce SW would do the trick much better. How do you guys use a 60* in wet conditions to chip anyway? My shots don't move more than an inch from where they land in those conditions... flying a shot 1 inch from the hole off a mud lie is one I have yet to master.

Messy, Messy, Messy!

I have had this situation before and firmed a FW off of the side of a hill and it made the green. Thought of using a 3-4 iron to! Left me about a 20 footer for par!

How far away was the pin?

How much green did you have for landing?

How much higher was the green than you?

Was this more mud, more grass or a mix of both?

Was this shot your only option or could you have played off a hill?

Played a normal chip, remained level, weight slightly forward, took club to about 8:00 and picked it clean as best I could. Reason: Didn't want to get all mussed up with mud and water so I kept the 8, 9, PW, SW, and LW in tha bag!

Hitting anything out of mud is messy and sucks. In general, including chipping, I try to stay stable, with less weight shift try not to over-twist my shoulders and hips. A muddy lie is also accompanied by a muddy stance, so you must prevent your feet from sliding during back and down swings. I liken playing out of mud to not wearing golf shoes, you just have to stay even more stable to prevent sliding feet.

Also, playing in mud more often helps too. You learn real fast what you should and should not do...
