How do you make swing changes?

So right now I am in the process of making swing changes. Trying to complete the change over to a 1 plane swing. So my question is: When you make swing changes how do you do it. Do you use video, training aids etc..

I think it's very hard to do without working with a good pro. It helps keep me on track and helps me "feel/groove" a new swing. (As it's very strange at first)

After that it's crates of balls on the range and the odd checkup to make sure I'm still on the right track.

(Although right now, ball flight and quality of contact gives me all the feedback I need)

Remember to truly groove a new swing takes quite a long time and commitment....

For tour pros it's a year or more....and they practice a lot.

If your main thing is trying to get down to a one plane action, you need to tackle posture and backswing first. The best way IMHO is to have the right concept and intellectual understanding of what you are trying to do in your mind's eye first and to stick with that concept. If you believe in the Hardy definition of one plane, get his book or DVD's and understand exactly what he teaches. I'm working on my 1 plane swing but my concept is more like what Mac O'grady teaches and Hogan advocated in 5 lessons, which is a little different than Hardy. A mirror works great when working on backswing plane because you get immediate feedback. I think this is every bit as good or better than video but you need to use video as well (especially when hitting balls).

I find it more effective to make changes without hitting balls first. Start with a slow motion move to get the feel of the correct postion first. Do this daily with a mirror (down the line from behind) or a reflection from a window or sliding glass door. As you learn what the correct feel is, start to gradually speed up your swing and try to get to the correct top of backswing position. Then take it to video, then to the range.

Making swing changes while hitting balls is extremely difficult, IMHO!!! Use practice swings to maintain the correct feeling & motion. Gradually begin hitting balls only after a solid week of swinging at least 10 min/day without a ball. When you take it to the range, take a couple of practice swings for every ball hit. Expect to hit some bad ones until you've ingrained this motion into habit.
