Drills to keep upper body behind ball?

I was wondering if anyone has a good drill to keep my weight shift from occuring prematurely.Had knee surgery about nine months ago,and I need to work on not getting out in front of the ball,it is causing inconsistency and a lot of misses right.Help would be really appreciated chris

Get your address position fundamentally correct (nice tall posture, rear hip pockets out, standing relativelyclose to the ball).

If you have a correct address posture then a good backswing (nice pivot, weight shift )will happen naturally.

From there, a correct downswing will happen naturally, and automatically, without having to think about it.

get to the range and hit three woods out of shallow mid iron type divots. there's no way you're getting it up unless you keep yourself behind the ball. although when my pro makes me do it, it's more "punishment" than "drill". but it works.

Point your front foot in towards the ball...

Practice uphill lies...

The simple answer is to just not get your head going before the rest of the body. That sounds stupid but this is something that I recently overcame. What I did was practice without a ball over and over keeping my head back while swinging. Practicing on an uphill lie seems like it would help as well.

Interestingly enough, fixing this problem may have exposed another problem with my swing: Because I was getting ahead of the ball I had to compensate with my hands to catch up. Once I started staying behind the ball my hands kept doing the same thing and all I was hitting was hooks instead of just a draw. There were some other issues also but I do believe getting ahead of the ball for so long engrained over active rotating hands in my swing and carried forward.

If it's not one thing it's another. Why can't my golf addiction be less complicated.
