Paint fill???

Recommended Posts

Hey GolfWrx -

The paint on my Mizuno MP32 Irons is coming out on the sole. I want to refill the paint and possibly a different color. Not exactly sure what to use. Some friends say nail polish but I'm wondering if there are any alternatives??

Thanks!!

Just buy $0.99 nail polish. The bottle will last for a long time, and the paintfill will probably last 2 seasons.

The tamiya paint I got at HobbyTown was like $2. There are lot of different colors in glossy, matte, translucent. Plus you wont get weird looks in line unlike if you were to buy nail polish.

I started doing fills years ago with cheap-o $0.99 nail polish, and was quickly looking for better alternatives.

Fills lasted about 10 rounds on the sole and some chipping on MB overlay fills.

Tamiya & Testors are more durable paints with more color finish options IMO. And overfills clean up easier (less smearing).

Both brands can be found in the $2.00-$3.00 range, and will last longer on your clubs.

Haven't re-filled for 20+ rounds, including practice. Hope this helped. Cheers!

What did you use to remove the existing paint? I'd like to do the reverse and have no paintfill on the numbers.

I bought the cheap hobby lobby paint then used some of my girlfriends clear hard as nails polish and I haven't had a chip in my numbers yet. It's been well over 50 rounds plus range time.

GOOF OFF makes a variety of solvent removers, they are by far my favorite.

Don't forget to use a Q-tip applicator or all your hard fill work will be garbage in seconds!!

Some guys suggest cotton balls or old rags, but you can be super precise with a Q-tip.

Also, if your wife has make-up sponges for flat smooth surfaces like the sole. They are soft and semi-rigid, works great!
