Stone Eagle GC

So i was lucky enough to play stone eagle in palm desert over the weekend, and all I can say is that it was one of the most amazing golf experiences... Tom Doak outdid himself carving that track out of the mountain and creating some of the most deceptive sight lines.

High tee boxes, rolling perfectly macured fairways, perfect greens, and unbelievable views make stone eagle my new favorite course. The fact that it was tremendously sneaky difficult was enhanced by the feeling it was still really playable. I ended up shooting into the 90's for the first time in months but it didn't even feel like it.

Maybe I was just too awed by the fact that we only saw one other group on memorial day weekend. The member I played with and I felt like we had the course to ourselves. It was crazy to look out and down onto multiple holes and see nothing but grass and desert mountain. No people, no clubhouse, no homes, nada.

If you can get on there I can't believe more people don't talk about it. I have played most of the PS courses and nothing even comes close...

Any pics? Personally, that is my favorite track in the whole valley- blows everything else away.

I posted in another thread but l'll say it again here. SE was the best conditioned course I played all of last year. The fairways were tight, perfectly mown carpets, almost like greens at other courses and the putting surfaces were so good, to say they were exceptional is a letdown, that's how pure they were. In fact, the turf at the range is better than many other private courses fairways. Loved the layout, it really takes you up and down and all around. Certainly not mundane and yes, the views are really nice. Love the mix of holes, some brutal but mostly fair off the tee.

Too bad the club fell on hard times, it's surprisingly cheap to get in for the quality of turf conditions.
