WRX BIG HITTERS - Who is for real?

MadGolfer76

Recommended Posts

Since we don't all play in isolation, let's name some of the big hitters we have all played with who are also members on this site. Kind of a first-person account kind of deal. Here are a few I know of:

DriverWedge - We played last year, and I saw him take a drive downtown for right around 3 bills worth of carry.

Monte - Okay, I haven't played with him, but the dude competes in Long Drive so I think that pretty much says it all. Think I saw some footage of him playing once, so that is okay.

Let's keep this to first-person accounts of other WRX members and see what we come up with.

Play with Mags300. In a scramble last year, we clocked it at 340 (GPS verified). I had never hit a flip lop wedge into this particular hole before, at least not on my 2nd shot. Seen him bomb a number of shots.
Nice! Scrambles get WAY easier (or at least different than a typical team) with a "big hitter" on the team. My issue with scrambles is that I usually get other hitters. Maaaaaybe one of us will sink a put every now and then.

i consider myself longer than avg (112-115 SS) and can carry it about 280 . I recently got a chance to play with monte at his home course and wow did i feel like a willamina. the hang time on his drives is just amusing

one shot i can recollect was a pretty flat par 4 , 350 to the pin with a bunker surrounding the front . he landed the ball on the rough right on the lip of the bunker between the green and fell back into the bunker. that made me stop trying to hit the ball far and concentrate on fairways .

my 712u 2 iron is being used alot more now , 260 and hitting the fairway 90+%.

Well done, Mad! I guess I'll put myself out there. Only guys I've played with are Ricky Ross and ScratchAdams.

ScratchAdams is in the club. I'll vouch for him. 115-116 clubhead speed. Averages 280-285 carry.

I don't belong in this club, but Rosco1216 should be at the head table. He swings it 116..... With a Momentus Heavy driver. We got him in a Speeder 8.2TS X flex (tipped) to control some of that speed, and he probably is down to a smooth 125-126 on the course. But I've seen him hit 130 and 185 on more than one indoor monitor. In the biz, that's what they call mashed potatoes.

Ill vouch for this knuckle head. He hits it a long way. His hybrid goes about as far as my driver.

Also longdrive387 hits it just as far as roscoe. I watched him go driver, sand wedge, double eagle on a 500 yard par 5.....

Pure745 bombs it
OnePuttBlunder, pre hip replacements, had one we figured was about 350-ish. We were just talking about it on Sunday.
ChiroMikey smokes it, probably the biggest size to distance ratio of anyone I've played with
Olsen12 smokes it. If anyone has played aguila, he flew it into the back face of the back bunker on 17 from aaaaallllll the way back, probably a legit 310 carry.

I am going to second Tai (Pure). Dude can flat out boom it. Hit one of my better drives of all time with him around and we took the cart 10-15 yards further to his after I hit. I think he was just sandbagging me on the first hole of the Betti event when I joked I would ride my driver out to my ball if I outdrove him on the first hole just to see if I would actually follow through.

Fore-life can bomb it as well. I know you aren't feeling super confident with that at the moment, but I was watching you destroy that RBZ/Kai'li setup when we played together.

Okay.....

Lets just suppose that this thread gives birth to a long and healthy list of WRX'ers who are verified to bomb the ball 300+ yards.

Then what?

Nuthin.

We all get a badge and can point at this thread when the always inevitable ("no you can't hit it that far" comment in a WITB or whatever) thread appears trying to prove otherwise.

Then we can start the new wave of golf: the GolfWRX BHoom It tour... a speed and distance tour that measures not only your ability to drive the ball super far, but to ho away your driver for a new one and continue the booming it process.

I can confirm that Mags hits it a long way. First hole the first time I ever played with him, we both hit it down the middle, and I knocked mine out there pretty good, and his ball flight didn't look like he'd really crushed it or anything. I'm used to being longer than most people I play with, so we got up to the first ball, and neither of us got out of the cart, until he's like, "I think that's you." :o

But Naylor09, who isn't too active here anymore is probably the longest I've played with from WRX. And back then, he wasn't even playing all that much. I think he's down in Florida now and playing all the time, so I can't imagine he's gotten any shorter.

I'd put stage1350 up against anyone in this thread and he would probably win
10 years ago, maybe. I learned to be humble with I tried my hand at LDA. I'm above average. But those guys were humbling me by 15+ yards. When you hit with a competitive LDA guy/girl, you will understand what a long drive truly is.

I've played with my share of WRXers and there are some serious horses out there. I'm debating a "lightweight" shaft in the 70g range to keep pace with the young flatbellies out there.

That said, I'm...no slouch...myself. (Don't sell yourself short, judge...)

I've played with Talon_Bomber a few times, and suffice to say that he can move it further than the average bear.
