This is a testing par-4 with a sharp dog leg right playing on the edge of an ancient tin mine. You may choose the safe option on the left but it will require a well-placed tee-shot to set up a long second to the green. More ambitious players may be tempted to cut over the gap and significantly shorten the second shot but this way doesn’t give any chance to average shots.

This hole became famous when Tiger Woods caught the green from back tees. Since he had play about 300m/330y and carry over some trees and numerous greenside bunkers, I still can't understand how he managed to do it !

My old pics don't do justice to this amazing hole !

It’s difficult to describe with words how beautiful is this specific spot, it’s a bit like a puzzle of which all the pieces fit perfectly. It’s a fairly gentle cliff top par-3 facing the Atlantic Ocean on a links-like sandy environment. I love it a lot, it’s absolutely beautiful. On top of that, there are these ruins, which may break the harmony of this stunning landscape. Or not ! I can’t really explain why, but these old customs houses are a perfect added value to the beauty of the place ! I played six rounds and also strolled around the course a few times with my camera during my stay at Praia d’El Rey. Each and every time I tried to take advantage of different angles or light in order to get the perfect shot of this stunning hole. Did I succeed ?

Hole #14 ++ of my Dream Course : Golf & Country Club de Bossey, France

I just realized that I started to publish my composite course one day to early to perfectly fit with the Advent Calendar… Therefore I made the subjective choice to fill the gap with an extra hole #14 located on my home course. This beautiful par-3 named “Quarry” is a long demanding hole with very little room for poor shots. Any ball played short in the rocks is likely to kick out-of-bounds. It requires a tee-shot of at least 165m/180y (regular tee) to 185m/202y (backtee) to catch the front of the green, which is pretty wide and may force you to face a tricky putt if you aren’t on the right plateau. Nice and challenging !

There are quite a few great holes at CK but the #15 is one of the most memorable I ever played anywhere ! This is a long par-5 playing toward the ocean with massive drops on both sides. It ends with a green set on top of 150m/500ft cliffs overlooking the Pacific ! Absolutely breathtaking ! In addition to being one of my favorite, it’s also the worldwide farthest course from my home (19,003 km / 11,810 mi) !

I wish I had my current camera and today's photographic experience when I played there in 2008 ...

Well, from a “purist” perspective, I’ve to admit that it may not be exactly what we could call a great hole. OK, but who cares ? It’s a fun hole, it could be really challenging depending on wind, location is absolutely stunning and … I love it ! I shortlisted some other nice #16 (Wolf at Paiute or Tralee for example) but I had to choose and so did I ! This short par-5 plays along the lagoon and provides to long hitters some good opportunities to cut over water and then catch the green in two. But beware of strong twisting winds and water in play on all shots !

What could I say that hasn’t already been said about the Road Hole ? It’s obviously one of the most iconic and toughest hole in our sport ! The drive over the shed, the road in play behind the green or the terrific greenside bunker are all elements giving this hole its fame ! A must play for any golf lover !

Although I played it only once a few years ago, I still consider the closing hole in San Lorenzo as the most complicate hole I ever played. It’s a tricky par-4 with water everywhere requiring a precise and aggressive drive in order to have a mid-iron to play to a highly protected green (water and bunkers). A perfect finishing hole where anything can happen ! Absolutely brilliant !

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OF YOU !!

    Thanksgiving Point

    Lehi, Utah

This course has been on the Web.com tour the last couple of years as the Utah Championship. Patton Kizzire won here last year (67,62,71,69).

I played from the tips (about 7,500 yds) only because I was playing with somebody that was practicing for an Open qualifier. It was not wise for me. This course is not particularly easy on normal days and transforms to very hard on windy days. Of course we were there on a windy day. I shot about 12 shots worse than my normal score. Ouch.

Regardless, it's a nice course with good views and it's relatively inexpensive to play most of the year.

    Great photos conceptDawg,

I lived in Logan for 4 years attending USU and was able to volunteer two years ago at Thanksgiving Point for the Web. Earned myself a free round there and there are quite a few long holes from the tips. Love the extremely elevated par 3 fourth hole.

Focus on Golf de Chamonix in France.

This Trent Jones Sr design is nestled on a pretty flat piece of land in the Arve River Valley and is surrounded by the highest peaks of Alps Mountains. It offers a decent golfing challenge and some of the most beautiful scenery on any golf course. If I would consider a sister course on your side of the pond, it would be most likely Banff Spring in Alberta.

Got 9 holes in at Aetna Springs Golf Course outside of Napa on Sunday, they're last day of operations. Reportedly the oldest course west of the Mississippi redone by Doak and Urbina in 2007. This was a fun course, glad I got to play it before they closed.
