Best Irons for Seniors, Both Men and Women?

I'm going to buy my mom a set of new irons. She's not willing to part with her Kascos b/c they are light. So the new set will have to be lighter than the Kascos. Incidentally, the Kascos were purchased in Asia, and it seems that the clubs (for many brands) sold in Asia seem to be lighter and/or the shaft a bit more flexible than the ones sold in the US (for the same model).

So what are good light clubs for senior women?

While we're at it, I may just buy a set for my dad if I can't find something for mom.

So what are good clubs for seniors?

Do seniors prefer light clubs?

(Especially those with a couple of vertebrae fused togehter?) Definitely graphite shaft.

Thanks!

(PS, I already know that brands like Callaway, TM, Ping, Tity, and Mizzys are good brands, in general, but I'm interested in clubs which are preferred or liked by seniors, in particular.)

I know that Callaway Big Berthas are regarded by many as being incredibly easy to hit... I see a lot of seniors playing them (men and women).

I've also heard a lot of good feedback about the Taylor Made Miscelas for Women...

As far as how "light" those are... I suppose that's an individual judgment - what's light to one may not be light to another. Any qualified fitter should be able to tweak a club set to the liking of the user.

I'd look at the Cobra 3400 irons with a Senior flex graphite shaft. They seem to get the ball fairly high and someone with a "half swing" because of back problems might want this.

When my wife was picking out her clubs she demo'ed a ton of clubs. She found that she liked the Callaway Big Bertha 2004's with the GEMS Saft the best because of how heavy the head was vs the light shaft. The Taylor Made Miscelas were nice, but they felt much lighter than the BB'04s. Also the Adams Ideals ladies set were light also.

Thanks,

  • 2 months later...

Ma wanted to play some more with her $1k Kasco set ($1k b/c they slap a huge import tax where she bought them)...so no new clubs for her.

Sister did buy a set of Marumans. The shop in LA seemed to have a large selection of Japanese clubs. She was wavering between Yonex and Marumans. According to her, both were lighter than U.S. brands like Callaway and TM (she said that Miscela was heavy).

At my local golf shop in the east coast, they said that they usually sell cobras to seniors/women, unless they have the mullah and the inclination to get honmas.

Thanks for your inputs, guys.
