Denver/Denver-area Golf Clubs

Good afternoon,

I'll be moving to Denver around the first of the year and am looking for a club to join. I am a young professional hoping to find a club that has great golf, but is also good for a young family. Does anyone have experience with Lakewood or Pinehurst? Thank you for any thoughts.

Welcome to Denver.

I'm going to assume that you're going to be living on the west side of town. You should also look at Columbine Country Club, which has been the site of regional US Open Qualifiers in the past. A friend of mine is a social member at CCC, and he really likes it. He takes his wife and kids out on the par 3 course often.

Here is a listing of all private clubs in Colorado... http://issuu.com/coloradoavidgolfer/docs/35-42_clubbingup?e=2437584/2648110

I live out in the southeast suburbs, and I will probably join Canongate in 2015 when I'm done with school. Meridian would be my first choice, but they only have golf (no pool or other family amenities).

Has anyone played at Lakewood or Pinehurst? What did you think of the courses?

Pinehurst has 27 holes I believe. 18 of which are limited to members only. As in if the staff wants to play they can only play the "other" 9 holes. I believe they have a young professional membership (profeasional business not golf).

I've never played Pinehurst but my brother inlaw did. Not too punishing but it is immaculate.

There are also some very good courses within 3 miles in any direction in that area.

The surrounding neighborhood(s) are great for families.

  • 3 weeks later...

I have played Pinehurst 3 or 4 times over the past few years. There is an 18 hole course called the Maxwell and a 9-hole course called the Pfluger. I have only played the Maxwell. It has been in immaculate condition every time I have played it. It has big elevation changes and undulating, multi-tiered greens. From the 1 cone (tips) it is not very long and it is generally pretty forgiving off the tees as there is much native growth and rough is not too penal. It is one of my favorite courses in Denver and a huge treat to get to play it as a guest. the club seems to cater to an older demographic, but that may be just because I have played only weekdays.

Blackstone, and Blackbear are the courses associated with Canongate.

You can also play Ft. Collins CC for $30 on a reciprocal basis.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I'm hoping to get out to check out some of these clubs soon(and maybe play a round or two). Does anyone have any experience with the social activities at the Canongate clubs? Are they similar to a traditional country club as far as holiday activities and annual golf events?

Yes. They have your traditional holiday brunches and other typical activities (as told by my neighbor). Their men's club is very active.
