Waterproof paint??

I've seen a lot of members post paint fill jobs and they look great so yesterday I painted my own wedges with acrylic hobby paint like many suggested. First exposure to dampness and the paint ran, you can imagine how I felt after hours of effort I put in!!! Has anyone any recommendations on what kind of paint to use? I've seen Tamiya paint being suggested but as it is acrylic I'm afraid it'll wash off on me again.. (I live in Ireland so it rains almost every day) Would enamel paint like Testors be better?

Acrylic should not be washing off. Sounds like something went wrong.. Bad paint, bad prep, not properly dried... If all of those were adequate, the other part that could help would be a clearcoat after it is fully cured.

Apologies I should have said that the paint peeled off and not washed off..

What braby33 said. You've got to clean the surface with acetone to get proper adhesion. Either paint type will work. Never had a problem with Testors Enamal paints.

Nail polish. Not much better IMO.

I use nail polish - It's available in thousands of colors, can apply a hardener over the top and a clear if you desire and it's durable as hell. Matte finishes are also available if that is your flavor. I've been using nail polish paint-fill for years with excellent results.

If you prep and do it properly, Nail polish will last a long time. Hardener/clear(most are a combo of the two) are an extra step for increased durability.

Most OEM paint-fill is epoxy-based paint that is incredibly durable, like a Garage floor coating.

not sure why so many use plastic model paint when the manufactures say not recommended...try to find a small amount of auto touch up paint or stripping paint (2-part polyurethane or epoxy paint)... its on-line.

I use Testor's paint because I build fine scale models and have the paint readily available. It is easy to work with, inexpensive , and durable enough for my liking. By the time the paint wears out I am usually ready to change the colour. Not arguing that a polyurethane and/or epoxy paint would be more durable. If I am not mistaken this is what the manufacturers use.

enamel paint should last if u put hardener over it..i used it to cover some rust spots on my electric trolley

Ive done a couple sets of irons and have about 30 rounds so far and they are holding up excellent. I used Testors enamel paint. The key thing is to let the paint cure for at least a couple days( the longer the better)
