How close to an Ace have you come?

You asked. Not bragging. I have two. Also, a couple nears like yours. I also have an 'Ace' to make 5 once on a par three. 1 in the war, 2 out, hit 3, back in the water, 4 out, hit 5 and plop, one hop, in the hole. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry. My buddies were literally rolling on the ground laughing.

i've probably had 10-15 literal tap ins (inches)

Never made one.

I once had one less then an inch away in a charity tournament where the hole in one prize was 10000$

I have a couple like MTLjeff. Inches but alas they have either stopped short or missed left or right.

I've got one (an albatross) and this is the closest I've come on a par-3 (the one nearer the hole). The funny thing is the fog was so thick that you could barely see the flag from the tee box but over the years I've come to the conclusion that the best chances you have getting the ball close is when you can't see the flag at all. :)

1/2" or so. Would have been on the fly. Ball mark was smack dead center of the hole just in front. In fact it pushed the turf back a little and the hole had to be fixed (1/2 the ball mark was now part f the hole). Adding insult to not making it, the ball on the bounce, hit the stick pretty hard and ended up off the green in a bunker. OUCH!

Now the closest I have come where my ball came to rest? About 2 feet probably about 10 times.

I'd never tell anyone that the two I made were any kind of 'great shot' on my part. Man, there is so much pure luck involved. My first one hit the green(184 yds) a good 20-25 feet from the hole. It just rolled on and on into the cup. Could have rolled by, could have stopped on the way. Second one took two hops, hit the stick and dropped. Could have bounce away. I can see how PGA Tour guys get them. They dial in yardages to the yard. Even with them there are not as many as you might expect. Lots and lots of luck!

Best and worst shot I ever hit:

Playing in a tournament years ago, Par 3, elevated tee, island green. Played about 120. It was the finishing hole with a new Corvette for an ace. I hit a nice soft 9. It comes down and starts gently tracking twards the hole. It doesn't fall but its hard to see it clearly from that far away. We get to the green and the official watching the hole comes over to me and says. When that ball was rolling to the hole I took a second look at the tee to verify who had just won the vette. At the last possible second it broke slightly left and lipped the cup. It was 1 inch behind the cup.

I remember it like was last week. I wish Id just hit it in the water instead of having to remember how close I was to that great car.

So the answer to your question is....1 inch

Handicap 7.7

Never had one, I've had a few a few inches away, and many a couple of feet.

I've had trouble with par 3's as of late though ... In my mens club we went on an outing to great gorge and there were 27 holes there with 8 pars threes. There were like 50 guys that went and most of us ponied up $20 for total score on the par threes and I won at E ... Cool and easy $500 :)

Had one roll an inch beside the hole and stop around 5-6 inches behind the hole this saturday, had another similar shot earlier this summer too. But my closest call was on my first ever round of golf where my teeshot on a 120 yard par 3 landed in the front of the green and slowly rolled towards the pin, hit hit softly and stopped on the edge of the hole so close that there were no visible grass between the ball and the hole. Would have been insane to hit a hole in one in my first ever round of golf.

This foto shows the close call from this saturday and is taken on the line of the tee and the hole so you can see that the ball rolled passed the hole just an inch to the right:

I have hit a few to about two feet thats about it nothing special. Missed birdie putt on one of them. Holed a wedge from about 60 yards for par at a par 5. My "luckiest" shot came when i holed a 7 iron from 155 on a par 4 second shot for my only eagle ever.

Came 2" short many years back. I was playing in the morning and you could see the track of the ball through the dew. No dew=ace. 2 putted for par and moved on. JK

You 2 putted from 2"?

I've had one ace, but before that, I thought the golf gods were against me. Landed one which hit the edge of the cup liner, destroyed the edge of the cub, and bounced a good 25-30 feet away. I promptly 3 jacked for bogey.

Closest all year was yesterday. Shortest Par 3 on our course by 50 yards was playing 126, flushed a 51* wedge to 8' behind the hole, brought it back down the slope and hit the lip.....stopped about a foot away. One of these years!

I've been inside a foot a number of times. Two weeks ago, during a practice round, I hit a very poor shot on a short par 3. I teed up another ball and hit the shot to within two inches. The ball was rolling toward the cup and I was thinking please don't go in, this is not how I want to experience this 'par'. Still searching but all of the recent hole-in-one posts fill my cup with hope.
