Shaft Help

Hi:

Have been a long time Flighted Riffle and Dynamic Gold player and am changing to a new set of MP 32s and was considering either the Project X or the Nippon shafts which seem to be getting a lot of buzz...

Am a fairly high ball hitter and like to work the ball both ways...

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

honestly, i have not hit nippon shafts, but based on numerous posts from here/tsg, i think the nippons are a much different shaft than px. i think nippon and px would be on opposite ends of feel, px being dead.

i've played dg, rifle, px and currently use px. it is a very stable shaft, even in lower flexes, although i play a 6.0, i even tried px 5.0 and 5.5 and picked up some distance/accuracy vs. dg even though it felt like a graphite shaft to me.

people's experiences w/ball flight w/nippon vs. px are similar in that they both have a higher penetrating trajectory vs dg. px is a much more muted shaft and that can make you swing harder to load, but for my swing, i like that stable/mutedness w/less feel because i want a smooth kick through the ball. i've also read great things about the nippon 1150gh though...

I haven't hit the PX's, but have been a DG user for many years until today. I just received my new Miura CB-201's with Nippon 1150 X from Chip Usher (Thanks again, Chip!!!).

Here's my take on the Nippon 1150's. The weight (115 grams) is nice, a bit lighter than the DG but very hard to tell. The shaft provides excellent feedback and is very smooth, some of this may have to do with the Miura heads too.

As far as ball flight, I didn't notice a dramatic difference in trajectory compared to the DG's. If anything, the flight was a bit lower which works good for me since I hit a high ball and wouldn't mind bringing it down a bit.

I've heard or read that Nippon shafts dampen vibration, but it is hard for me to tell after just one round.

Overall, I'm pleased with the Nippons after my first round. If you want to try something different, then you can't go wrong with these shafts.
