For Tour players it seems to be the choice of most. Sponsorship by Titleist certainly accounts for some players, but since they are playing for their livelihood and potentially $millions, it must be an excellent ball for pros. However, the winner of the most PGA tournaments last year played a Nike. I suspect that there are a number of balls that are as good for pros as the ProV, but probably none better.

For a player like myself, a 17 HCP, the ProV is not the ball for me regardless of price. The fact that golfers can choose the playing characteristics of the ball is one of the reasons that some of us enjoy forums such as this one.

There is no better golf ball than ProV1, of that I'm pretty confident.

But there are plenty of golf ball just as good as ProV1, some of which are available much cheaper.

And there are plenty of people for whom some other ball suits their game better than ProV1. Although I must say my game is about as far as you could imagine from the type of player ProV1 was designed to serve, yet aside from the cost they are absolutely ideal for me. So I'm not sure it really comes down to anything but personal preference and cost.

ProV1 is as good a ball as anyone knows how to make and within the Rules of Golf it's performance is maxed out. So you if it suits your game and you don't mind paying four bucks per ball it's not possible to buy a better golf ball.

P.S. I've played 100+ rounds with ProV1 over the years but long-term I play DT Solo X-Outs that I buy for under $1/ball and am perfectly happy with them.

There is very little difference in performance between similar balls within each category. ProV1, Z-star, FG Tour, etc. Every ball manufacturer maxes out performance (distance) within the framework of the rules so in effect, there is no ball that's "longer" than any other unless you want to split hairs over a few yards on a 250 yard drive. Likewise, urethane covered balls all spin similarly (more than isonomer), so you can expect similar stopping power as well.

I have nothing against Titlest balls other than price, but I see no reason to play them when Z-start often go on sale for $20/dozen and Titlest doesn't.

Short, sweet and 100% accurate statement. The Pro V is the best ball for many players and just the same, it's the worst ball for many players.

It is interesting to me that Harris English has switched to Callaway, but he is still playing the Pro V1 (or maybe the Pro V1x, not sure which). I guess he thinks that it is the best ball.

Who am I to disagree?

Truthfully, i score best when i play a ProV1x. But i wont rule out the possibility that this is because i play extra carefully with them and really try to keep them in play because they're expensive.

Prov1 spins too much
Prov1x works better for me
[/quote]
Same for me. I loose distance with the driver with the former. I guess it is because of the extra spin.
I had played the 1x for quite a few years but now am sold on the lethal and also the tp5 before that. I have paid between $24 and $30 for the lethal and that my friends is very cheap for the great performance it gives.

In previous years I would have said a firm no for me personally, I did however really like the 2013 model. The price point will however keep it from becoming my gamer. I really miss the original TP Red.

Titleist Pro V1 is definitely the best ball around the world - in terms of marketing and branding!
What they did over the years to establish such an awareness, such a reputation and such an aura for that ball is outstanding. Respect!

But if it is THE best ball? Some might say yes, others no - one man's trash is another man's treasure.
THE best ball is the one that fits best YOUR game. Doesn't matter if it's the Pro V1 or something else.

That's true. I experimented for six hours over the course of two days at our short game practice areas, and then played multiple rounds with a number of "tour" balls. The ProV1 wasn't the best ball for me.

I like all the tour balls, Nike, Z Star, Cally, Bridgestone, Pro V1, whatever, when I get them for free. My favorite is Pro V1. I believe it is the best for green side control. It is the best for short iron spin.

For $46 a box, no way. There are much better balls out there, in terms of ball for the price.

I haven't paid for a box of ProV1 since they first came out.

I think the Lethal is the best ball out there. Longer off the tee than a ProV but since I don't pay for balls the Pro V1 is the ball for me. Not a fan of the newer Srixons or the Callaways. Nike is completely out of the question since I don't play their clubs and they design their balls for their clubs.

It's not for me either but even the way the ball gets tested is different. For me around the green is not the most important thing, off the tee is. I pick a ball that is low in spin while still being a "soft" ball that spins. The srixon zstar xv's and chrome +'s have been great balls for me.
