Another Airline (Delta) Golf Bag Horror Shows (w/ Pic)

Here lies what remains of my set. The graphite shafted clubs seem to have made out alright, but the steel clubs took a beating.

The customizations make the pain that much harder.

I simply don't understand how that is possible. It would seem to take some serious effort to make that happen.

Sorry to hear about it and I wish you luck but typically airlines will not cover damage to golf clubs if they were not in a hard shell case of some kind and I'm guessing you were not using one. In most cases, they make you sign a waiver of some sort if you try to check in with a soft case.

At least the heads aren't dented...

It simply does not seem possible does it - unless they were not protected at all during flight.

This is reason #1 I paid for an SKB hard shell case (with their $1500 club guarantee).

Almost looks like it fell off the luggage carousel and got run over by the plane tugger. As someone else previously mentioned its a good thing the heads dont appear damaged from the photo, just some re-shafting and you should be good to go in no time!

Yikes. Either run over or had a LOT of weight right on the middle of the bag. Wonder how hard those graphite shafts were bent. I'd definitely take my first few swings in an area with nobody around.

Good luck getting a friendly claim agent on the phone and hope you have status to use as leverage for a payout.

Did my online claim today......I doubt I'll get much but we'll see.

Stiff arm inside a club glove travel bag will help ensure this doesn't happen again. I travel with delta frequently and they beat up clubs! However, never had a claim yet! (Knock on wood! Lol)

By the way its just the putter and short irons bent, it almost looks like the bag was laying on the ground with the shorter clubs towards the top and someone stepped on it. Good luck OP.

If it was stepped on a stiff arm wouldn't protect them.

My god in heaven that's a real crime to do that to a poor club. Innocent club.

Exactly, a stiff arm is going to do nothing if the bag is stepped on or run over or slammed into the corner of something. I've always been sort of...skeptical I guess is the closest I can come...to the usefulness of the stiff arm in most real world luggage handling situations.

There's a reason why everyone in the airline industry refers to them as "BAG SMASHERS". There's no excuse for that at all.

Stay on them. They lost my bag from JFK to BWI. Delivered it 2 days later with the zipper busted at the top and the stiff arm sticking out. The travel bag was destroyed. They paid me fair market for it, but it took a few phone calls and some pics.

I always thought the point of that was that if the bag got dropped on its head, the stiff arm takes the brunt of the force and not your driver shaft.

Sucks about those clubs. I hope that the airline does the decent thing or that you have some kind of insurance for it.

Still waiting to hear what kind of travel bag those were in - just so I can avoid it.

Same here...I'm flying with my clubs for the first time later this month and all I have is a padded travel bag. After seeing this post I'm regret not buying the SKB hard case.

No.

Think about how many tens of thousands of pieces of luggage get handled and how infrequent this really is.

Stuff happens, and I'm [u]definitely[/u] sorry it happened to the OP. Also chiming in to those wanting to know what type of bag this set was in.

Stiff arm is also bent and is useless now.

Bag was a Bag Boy Soft Cover Travel Bag.

Only the 52 out of the steel shafted clubs were straight.

Swung the Driver and the 3W yesterday, they didn't snap.

Geez I know bummer won't help but here it is anyhow. I have traveled a few times with clubs and always used a soft cover travel bag. Never any problems. What happened to your bag is just total nonsense. I traveled with Southwest and JetBlue. Overseas once with BritAir.

Dear lord, that is awful! Hope you get some compensation. I always get travel insurance through AAA that covers stuff like that, among other things. Well worth the $25. I know my homeowner's insurance would cover that as well. Your bag HAD to get run over by something to cause that much damage.

That made me sick a little bit . . .I would cry.
