I can't be the only one...

So it's winter here in MI and I was just cleared to begin putting and chipping again. Hooray! So I'm standing in the living room putting on the carpet and it doesn't feel right. I put on my golf shoes - all is right in the world.

I can't be the only one that puts on their golf shoes to practice putting in the house, can I?

You must be a bachelor.

It would be hard to putt with two eyes swollen shut at my house.

What'd you put your golf shoes in? ;) Sorry, had to.

Yeah, I dunno, never thought to put my shoes on to putt around the house.

Edit: gotta take that back, the angry wife is probably in relation to wearing the golf shoes in the house, oops, maybe I am a bit green behind the ears yet! ;)

GWD - living like one. Engaged, but fiancée is down in Texas finishing up her Masters program.

MayDay - I was putting and had the thought, so I just pulled my phone out of my pocket to write the post. Darn iPhone didn't correct my grammatical error, just my spelling ones haha.

No kidding. I was actually praised the other day for being able to carry on an intelligent conversation without looking at my phone. I thought it was called common courtesy and social interaction, but it quickly become a lost skill... talking to people...

So far, I am the only one that puts on my golf shoes to practice putting in the house... Is this what I have to look forward to once married?

I do the same! well, I don't technically wear golf shoes, but as long as I wear shoes of some kind, putting indoors feels right! I have a birdieball green I lay out across the kitchen tile (and put away as soon as I'm done - happy wife happy life). barefoot just doesn't feel right to me, especially since the mat is about 1/2" above the floor anyway, so it ends up feeling about 1 1/2" different than my normal putting stance on a real green. Practice like you play right?

I wear my golf shoes when I putt in the house. I have a room in the basement wear I do this, tight weave industrial carpet on top of concrete seems like it stimps at about 20.

I use to put barefoot but my golf shoes give me probably +1-1/2" of height so I wanted to keep things consistent. I was going to say something about me being the king of the castle and doing whatever I want to in my house. But that is BS, I would get called out on it. So full disclosure it's in the furnace room in the basement.

OP enjoy your freedoms as an engaged man, all this will change after you are married. Or it ends in divorce. Do as she says or move out and give her half of everything you own, your choice.

I furnished one room in the basement of my house a bit - so i am fortunate enough NOT to putt in the living room. But i never wear golfshoes, mainly barefoot.

The only thing: sometimes i have to putt around our two british shorthair cats - they simply love being down there with me and blocking the imaginary hole.....

Ok I am so glad this post is here cause now I can comment on something

There is ZERO reason to wear golf shows to the range when your hitting off mats

There is zero reason to wear your golf shoes or your golf hat with ball marker attached to a golf tournament that you are NOT playing in.

When I putt in my house on my putting green I am generally in socks or bare foot

The biggest question here is are you using soft spikes, spikeless golf shoes or nails? And as food for thought, start vacuuming your carpeting in one direction so you can start practicing left to right putts, right to left putts, into the grain putts and down grain putts.

Yeah...going a bit stir crazy here in Chi.

I do wear my golf shoes, but they're spikeless. Since I'm in the middle of remodeling my house, 2 years in :), and live alone, other than Mr. Fancy Pants, my Golden Retriever, I can putt and swing my clubs on my carpet that will "soon" get replaced. No worries about working a divot in my old carpet in the back bedroom which is currently gutted, insulated, and new wiring. When the carpet gets pulled and ready for new flooring, I'll just move my practice station in another room under construction.

I have a pair of sheepskin slippers with a bit of a rubber sole on them I tend to wear around the house and I always have at least those on when I putt.
Golf shoes add just a little height, so I think it makes sense to keep it consistent. I know going from 35 to 35.5" on my putter length helped me, so why not a 1/4" in height?

When I first started playing golf I used to putt & chip in the living room. I'd pretend the sofa was a bunker & I'd chip over it, etc. Then I decided to use cotton balls wrapped in masking tape to resemble a golf ball & would hit them with a full swing wedge. We had a light shelf near the ceiling, running around the living room in that house and when we sold the house & had to move, it was amazing how many of those stupid looking cotton balls were up there. My husband thought I was totally nuts (& he was probably right). I never wore my golf shoes to do all that though. I don't do any in-house practicing anymore....other than swing a golf club once in a while if I hear a good tip while watching golf (& only in the rooms with very high ceilings.....learned that the hard way). :fie:

I would feel like Barney 5 if I were to wear my golf shoe's in the house. I know winter is long in the mid west, but for your sake I hope your wife makes back soon.

I wear my golf shoes when I play Wii golf. It just feels better. They are soooo comfortable, and don't hurt the carpet. Plus I could wear them anywhere because they are the new Ecco Biom spikeless shoes. I am really looking forward to playing in them this year for the first time, but I had to try them out with the Wii golf, and just love the way they feel.
Oh, and KJBowenWRX... there is ZERO reason to hit off mats :) (tongue in cheek)

Hey backtees, I want to be you when I grow up. Nice man cave!

I wear spikeless golf shoes 99% of the time when I play so If I practice putting in the house I just wear my daily athletic shoes.

So it's winter here in MI and I was just cleared to begin putting and chipping again. Hooray!
[/quote]Since you say "cleared," and are presently living alone, I take it that you just got medically cleared to putt & chip.

Hat's Off to you and Best Wishes to you as you move forward, both with your health and your game.

Regarding your "ritual," though that may be too strong of word, however I too live alone now and have been going through treatment for a condition for the better part of the last year, having last played competitively, or at all, for that matter, in Octoberof 2012.

While presently still undergoing treatment, I was "cleared" to hit from basically 8i up and putt in the fall.

I can't recount the number of times that I have gotten fully dressed as I would for the final round of a tournament, though unlike Tiger, I wear black slacks and a pink solid/striped shirt, LMAO.

I'm visualized past tournaments as I putted in my living room.

Ridiculous?

Absolutely, lol.

Though it felt damn good, lol.

I don't do it often.

Usually only after I buy a shirt or two.

My GF showed up unannounced at the door one evening and seeing me in pink and black, and knowing the only time that I wear this combo, she literally asked, "WTH?"

I just turned and welcomed her in.........

To my medicated world, lol

Again, Best Wishes to both you & you fiancé and continued good health.

Have a great season-

Richard

Forged -- yes, I was medically cleared. I've been rehabbing a couple broken ribs and am currently cleared to resume full swings and regular workouts on Feb 1. I think "ritual " is too strong a word, but it's definitely a habit. I wear the golf shoes (with soft spikes, I switch them out for street spikes in the winter) to putt just to groove the feeling. I use a Black widow grip on all my putters and my left thumb goes on the red spot on the Widow's back. If I putt without shoes on, it just doesn't feel right.

I'm glad you are on your way to playing again and I hope you too have a great season. I'm lucky that my fiancée understands my obsession and has even decided that she would like to take up the game. She's gone to the course with me before and I even took her to the local Par 3 course to play 9 with me. It's nice to have her there because I tend to get really hard on myself for poorly executed shots and the like, and I find myself not taking the game so seriously when she's there with me.

I appreciate the well wishes for both her and myself, and I hope that your game and relationship get even better in the coming year.

My best,

Alex

I putt on the carpet in the living room at about 20 feet. The hole is a Quaker Oats round container that is cut to the proper height at the point where the living room drops off to the sun room (about 8 inches). I cut a hole in a cardboard box that I putt into to fall into the quaker oats container. Strange, the living room carpet has a slight right to left in it, just slightly!
