Why I start to hate this part of the year

First off I am in SW Florida so it is year round playing so that is not the reason.

Seems in winter, manufacturers release new equipment. Nothing says I want that than going into a simulator seeing the possibility of gaining yards with each iron or hybrid or wood you hit.

There seems to be a 30 day love affair with the distance you get then it is back to the norms. Not sure why that is.

I was hitting various manufacturers 7 irons and getting an obscene distance from all of them, then progressed to the X hot hybrid and wow, driver distance with roll out. I then went to last years tech that is on sale and got very similar results. i swear the clubs and simulators are hyped up and offer results that I just do not think are worth the costs they bring. Now I know, to club ho's I am persona non grata and I can accept that. The dollars that are being commanded for a new set of irons is crazy. I love my brick and mortar stores but I can see why EBay does so well.

So with all new offerings out there, who is taking the plunge?

I haven't bought a set of clubs from a brick and mortar in years. Do all my research, then 99% of the time, go through Global Golf.

They come in, I take them to my guy at a local mom and pop store, he bends/grips/etc. and I'm off.

I picked up a SLDR 430 (Kai'li 60x) and a 14* SLDR (Blueboard 80x) off of the BST for less than the cost of a brand new SLDR 430 TP.

This time of year always gets me. Picked up a brand new set of Rocketbladez Tours and a XHP 3 Wood last year around this time. Luckily, this is about the only time of year I actually buy clubs. The rest of the year is spend trading/swapping/selling.

I just put new grips on the handle of my Toro snow blower. Have worn them out already this season with the usage.

Ouch. I regripped my 56* in November and it's getting close to replacement time... Now should I go NDMC again or go Iomic? Tough living in myrtle beach

A few years ago, it was weight back and low and a lower angle for drivers. Then it was adjustments that you could make for almost every conceivable situation. Now it's adjustable, weight forward and a higher angle. What's it supposed to be?

My apologies to the club manufacturers for my not rushing out and dumping a few hundred into a new driver. I'll spend that money on lessons and the range, learning to hit my out-dated technology consistantly straight, then I'll buy into distance.

Insert something witty here...

I'll give you tough, I live Florida, walking distance from Edwin Watts where I already have a regular discount AND now they're going out of business so I gotta drive by dozen sale signs every time I come and go from the house.

Its just not fair.

This winter has been brutal. Lake effect snow here on the shores of Lake Michigan. Roads too dangerous to drive the 1.5 hours to the nearest heated range. Hopefully this is my last Michigan winter...

I feel just awful for the guys that get to demo and hit all the new stuff and play golf year round. I just don't know how they do it...

I figure if it isn't broken don't fix it. I love my current set all the way down the line and this year, for the first time in I don't know how long, I will not be adding or taking anything out of the bag. I too get to play all year long so believe me there is plenty of temptation. But I am just not convinced that I can improve over what I am already carrying but from personal experience I most certainly could make things worse.

-17 low today...air temperature not wind chill. not really feeling bad for someone having to deal with club tech's and demo days right now!

I guess it's a rough problem to deal with! :nyam:
[/quote] No doubt, I had to work outside the other night when the air temps was -12 with a windchill factor was -26. Has put me in a bad mood since.

I told myself I want going to change anything before the year started since I got new irons right before then end of the season. Since then, I've changed:

Driver
Hybrid
Irons
Actual bag.

Only thing that stayed is the 3wd( new at the very end of last year) wedges (also new at the end of last year) and putter (actually stayed in the bag all last year).

SW Florida????

Tonight, when the temp hit 4 degrees, I'm going to be sitting around feeling sorry for a guy in Naples, Florida that hits his 7 iron too far....

Just joking Ballgofarboy....I'll be teeing it up at Tiburon in about 3 weeks.....and sending pictures back to my friends at home who are sitting around in their parkas.

Hmmmmm, let's see 26*s outside, snow on the ground and a low tonight of 10*. Best to you. Enjoy the sunshine. I have to tell you, from looking at the weather map, you picked the wrong time to say you don't 'like this time of year' to most. If I were you I'd just get my clubs, go hit balls, play some holes, have a sandwich and a beer and STOP COMPLAINING!
Well, Saturday is Feb. 1st. Let's all be optimistic. The sun is coming north, more daylight and 50*s will be crawling up the coast soon. Not soon enough! lol.

Just go with the yellow and black Golf Pride...or get custom grips to match Tuukka Rask's mask.

Very wise strategy, I'm in exactly the same boat. I love and trust every club in my bag and don't want to add anything. I did get new balls for this year (chrome +) but you always need balls so changing doesn't cost anything. I can't see myself changing any clubs any time soon.
