What is the hold up at Dick's?

I probably will not swing a golf club for another 6 weeks but I still enjoy picking out potential new golf balls for my swing. I did better last season with a mid-spin urethene covered ball, and had a great time with the RBZ U and the Gamer Tour. I am definitely going to try the Project (a) from TM, but what is going on with Dick's Sporting Goods Top-Flite and Maxfli U series? The Gamer Tours are still being sold at a discount and the Maxfli U series are basically gone. Any word on what the deal is? The folks at Maxfli and Top-Flite have been doing some amount of R&D, but to be honest I have no idea where it is happening.

Any insight?

Most of the Maxfli U Series have been discontinued. There are two new U6 balls and an updated U6 being released for 2014.

I called Dick's and they said that they are "uncertain" about the Gamer Tour for 2014. Doesn't sound promising - $25 MSRP for a good urethene covered ball may have been too good to last.

The real cost of a golf ball is pennies. The overhead is marketing and distribution and that is what Dicks provides. If they retire anything from the shelves is because the profit per sq ft is not what they expect over other balls (and that only means low sales).
