Cleveland country clubs?

Hey guys I'm moving to cleveland in June and am looking for an area to live close to or in a golf/country club to join on the east side. Funds are limited so I need for it to be affordable. I'm a 25yo single male who will be starting an orthopedic surgery residency on July 1st. If the club has a fitness area/gym it's a definite bonus. Let me know if you have any info on somewhere that might match this description or places offering specials. Thanks for looking!

Sorry, I'm a westsider so can't tell you about all the clubs over there but I'd look into stonewater. I don't think it has a fitness club but does have a couple sister courses to play. One of them, Little Mountain, is a course I really like.

The clinic or UH?

My condolences that you are being forced to move to Cleveland. Is weather good enough during the course of the year to even warrant joining a club up there for golf?

That's always been my obstacle but I think I'm going to bite this year...hopefully it gets me to the course more.

It's with the clinic. Yeah I'm moving from Alabama so the weather issue is one I have never had to deal with. I figure if it has a gym that would help some cause I will definitely be joining one either way.

I can't imagine that the clinic doesn't have a fitness center that you'd have access to....you might want to look into that first.

I'd still look into stonewater. Some of the younger guys I know belong there and at Firestone. I'm not a huge fan of stonewater's layout but it is a nice place with a decent practice area.

I like the looks and price of stonewater. Location is nice too. Looking at places to live near shaker heights

I'd look into Shaker Heights CC. I inquired there last spring and they only had a $1K initiation. The dues are a bit higher but may be very reasonable for your age.

There's a lot of nice areas and clubs out there and I think a lot of residents end up in that cleveland heights/university heights/shaker heights area. Lots of restaurants/bars that appeal to them.

Yeah that area would be perfect for commute reasons and it seems safe from what I've read. Cleveland will be the largest city I've lived in and I don't care to be mugged or get my vehicle broken into.

There's some areas to avoid over there but you'll know them when you see them.

Talked to Jeff at Shaker Heights CC and they have a great deal going on but you have to use a cart to play which kills the deal for me. Unfortunate

I had a similar issue with a club on the west side that I was looking into last year. Mandatory cart fee.....but you didn't have to take it if you didn't want to. I couldn't join and pay for a cart I'm not using.

I live in a small suburb south east of Cleveland.. Played highschool golf and have a few friends who have memberships at very nice clubs... One being firestone.. Firestone is a great track but the price is pretty steep. Some members can also get a little annoying.. They think they are above everyone because they belong to the stone.. And you'll always get the guy who is hitting blades and dressing like Ricky who thinks he's going to crush you... But still a great club and nice staff. Also look into Westwood Country Club. Not a bad course.. Kind of short but the membership is great and they have caddies.. I used to caddy out there and loved it

Shaker Hts or Cleveland Hts are great places for a young guy to live. I'm sure you'll like living in one of those areas and working at the Clinic. Congratulations!! Now, for golf, you're probably better off not joining a club with all the great public courses around there. Manikiki, Little Mountain, Windmill Lakes (a bit of a drive, but worth it), Boulder Creek, and a bunch more. Driving west and south, you can play a whole lot more great courses. You're giving up weather, but compared to Alabama, in that part of town, you're gonna like it. Plenty of great public courses around. Make sure you get to Sleepy Hollow and Pine Hills.

I live on the west side and travel to the east side a lot for golf. Usually not more than 30-45 mins to get to a great course on the a East side.

I've done extensive research on private clubs this winter in the Cleveland area and I can tell you that the OVERWHELMING majority of them have these required cart/caddie policies before certain times. I'm also not a fan of it and it is not what I became accustomed to in being a member of various country clubs throughout the country. Kinda sucks.
