Which ball would you choose?

Pro V1 and Zstar I get much more check from greenside bunkers and can back up a wedge fifteen feet if I want to.

I find the Zstar XV and Pro V1x to be about ten yards longer with the driver, give a little more roll out from bunkers and basically drop and stop on the greens.

I like the abilty to spin the ball back on severely sloping greens but it seems like you don't really see the pros spinning the ball much anymore.

Thoughts ?

I would choose the Z Star XV or ProV1x for you. I personally like the Z Star XV better. As long as you have the control to one hop and stop, take the 10 extra yards. Also, if you can back up the Z Star 15 feet, you should be able to back up the Z Star XV a bit too if you need to.

I would go with the 10 extra yards, and the drop and stop. Backing up the ball 15 feet can turn and bite you in the butt when you back it off a false front or down a ridge line.

Shoot, if you can spin a ball like that, then choose the longest ball possible that still has feel...I think there are plenty beyond the two you listed.

Driver: PXG 0811X Gen4 @ 10.5* w/Tour AD VR-6 S

Fairway: PXG 0341 X GEN4 @ 15* w/PX Evenflow Riptide CB 60g

Irons: PXG 0311 Gen4 Xtreme Dark Combination Set: 5-7 Gen4 XP; 8-GW Gen4 P w/SteelFiber 95
Wedges: Cleveland RTX Black Satin 50*  54*  58*

Putter: PXG Bat Attack-HS @ 35.5"

Is there a reason why you limit your range on these two balls only? What exactly are you looking for?
[/quote]

Chose those two because I think Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x and Srixon Z Star and Z Star XV simply feel better of the club face and putter than other tour level balls.

I will play Pro V1x's if I can find the practice version for 28 bucks a dozen here locally. If not, I find something in the price range that has a soft feel. Unfortunately for me these days, normal compression balls make the arthritis in my hands hurt while soft balls don't. I have not played the Duo or the new Callaway as yet. I found an old sleeve of Nike PD Softs I had gotten for my kid and played that yesterday. No pain in the hands and the ball performed well enough though I think there are newer balls out there that are better.

I'm a fan of the XV but have found an even better ball in the chrome +. The chrome+ is the best all round ball I've played. Long and straight off driver, nice flight, heaps of spin and great feel off all clubs. I'm not a cally fan boy in general but I've always liked their balls(used rule 35 and hex blues for years), and this is probably the pick of the bunch. I've stocked up as they have been discontinued. Have heard good things about the SR2 but I'm in no hurry, I'll play the chrome+ til I run out.

I play the XV for two reasons:
1. Hardly anyone plays Srixon so there is hardly ever any confusion on which ball is mine. I know that's pretty trivial but when your playing with 5 guys all with titleist of some sort it can get confusing.
2. Sometimes when I'm playing a PV1x you get those chip shots that just unexpectedly check up for no good reason and come up way short. I've never had one of those with the XV. It is generally predictable with green side shot.

Unless something has changed in the last week or so; the Chrome+ will still be made this year.

Won't be available in Oz though from what I've been told. Cally will only have the SR range of premium balls supplied here.
