What Kemau said... Cantlay has a lot of catching up to do before the term "rivalry" starts getting thrown around.

Serious question. Just wondering what your thoughts are...

as far as american young guns, my thoughts went to 24 year old harris english with 2 wins....he closes. yes JS puts himself there, and respect due 100 percent, but that's only the first step. no doubt he'll figure it out though

as far as international young guns, it gets ugly imo.....rory, matteo, lowry, ryo, bae, matsuyama just off the top of my head

my opinion aside, golf is in great hands for the next 20-30 years....my popcorn is ready!

You think Speith won't have another win in four years?
Most of the American "young guns" are half a decade older than him and less consistent.
I can think of one young gun in orange that he's more than equalled.

Hediki Matsuyama 0 2nd place finishes, 4 top 10's, 11 top 25's,14 cuts made, 3 missed cuts, and $1,412,262 in career earnings

Ryo Ishikawa 2 second place finishes, 7 top 10's, 12 top 25's, 40 made cuts, 34 missed cuts and $ 2,325,297 career earnings

Sang Moon Bae 1 win, 1 second place, 4 top 10's, 8 top 25's, 40 made cuts, 20 missed cuts and $3,220,863 in career earnings

Jordan Spieth 1 win, 4 second place finishes, 11 top 10's, 20 top 25's, 28 made cuts, 9 missed cuts, $5,129,075 in career earnings

I can see your argument for Rory and Matteo but nowhere close on Matsuyama, Ishikawa, and Bae. Ishikawa has largely been a "bust", with all his talent he hasn't really proved anything on the PGA Tour. Winning in Japan is one thing, winning on the PGA is very different.

Matsuyama is the closest to him and he has no wins and no runner ups. For Spieth to be at the beginning of his second full year and to accomplish all that outs him well ahead of most. I'd put him above Harris English as well. I'd venture to say Spieth is on of the top 6-7 American golfers. Behind Tiger, Phil, Dustin, Bubba, Zach Johnson, maybe a Dufner and Bradley.

I'll agree with you that the PGA isn't the only tour that counts. It certainly is the hardest to be consistent in, that was what I was trying to get at. Don't get me wrong Ryo Ishikawa is insanely talented and I do believe he will win on tour but I just don't know when. And as I stated in my first post I thing Matsuyama and Tinglang Guan are going to be the face of Asian golf for the foreseeable future.

How fitting.. everyone else looks ready to play and he's in his lounging gear.

i'm sorry refresh my memory.....why is this kid being dumped on again? he has a back injury. if you haven't had the "pleasure" of such then best to hit pause. he has credentials that are 100% legit, won on the web.com tour, earned his PGA Tour card and awaits the green light. you take a so called golfwrx rivaly to choose sides then proceed to bash. what has he done other than swing a club on the golf course?

Cantlay WDs from second event of Web.com Finals

Sep 3, 2013

Mere days after a runner-up finish at the first event of the Web.com Tour Finals, Patrick Cantlay has withdrawn from this week's Chiquita Classic, citing an ailing back.

'I haven’t felt good for a long time,' Cantlay said in a release. 'Ever since I hurt my back at the Colonial. My back never healed and I came back knowing I had to play to try and salvage my season and stay in the top-25.'

Cantlay, a former All-American at UCLA, withdrew from Colonial in May with a back injury and took nearly three months off recovering from a hairline fracture in his L5 vertebrae.

“I never felt healthy the past couple of weeks,' he said. 'My back was hurting last week, especially coming out of the rough on Sunday. Like I said, I don’t want to blame anything on my back. I just didn’t play well at times and I missed a lot of chances.'

'I’m just going to take it day-to-day right now,' he said. 'I won’t play until I feel confident that I know I won’t hurt it again.”

I followed Cantlay during his amateur Bruin days and I was really looking forward to his potential shining through on the big stage (the PGA Tour). However, his development is taking extra time. Not that he won't eventually break through but to compare JS and PC right now is almost a joke. JS has risen to the occasion with the best players on the globe several times. PC has yet to be in that position. I'd like to see them both play well. The other guy is Peter Uihlein (Oklahoma State). He went over seas to earn his status and it's been working out for him. Give it a couple of years and the USA will have some raw and ready to perform talent.

Spieth's final round numbers are actually pretty good. It's his 3rd round meltdowns that are making Sun more difficult for him.

Not good enough to get i done on Sunday in a major though.
