Nearly an Ace! Pretty sure I got robbed!

I'm not sure how this happened, but I'm pretty sure I was robbed of an Ace yesterday, examine the pic, and see for yourself! 155 yds, uphill a bit, into a slight wind, so it was playing just over 160 to the pin. Hit a 6 iron (yes, I'm publicly admitting I'm not a long hitter on GolfWRX . . . I know I might get banned for this)

. . . made the putt!

I had a picture on an earlier phone better than that one, I was playing early morning with my daughter, 165 yard 6 iron, ball landed about 3' in front of the hole, the line in the dew actually disappeared as it went over the edge of the hole to end up about 18" dead past it.

Still not sure how it didn't drop, at least 40% of the ball was over the edge of the hole.

It's Ok because on the same hole later in the year I hit a chillydip crap five iron to a back pin that landed about 10 yards in front of the green and rolled all the way back and dropped.

The golf gods giveth and the golf taketh away sometimes.

I have a much closer call if it will make you feel better

Playing in a big couples event at my old club

Chip in for eagle on the par five 6th .. First eagle on that hole and all pumped up

Get on seventh tee, a 155 yarder over a lake and i am chirping about making an ace and back to back eagles ... Blah blah blah

To this point in my life I hadn't made an ace yet

Hit a high draw 9i that never leaves the flag, hits 12" in front of the hole, climbs the stick and drops down sitting on the front lip

Later that Fall the same thing happened in a big scramble .. 27 holes, four man. Pros allowed. Same shot as above but w an 8i ... The ace would have been a skin for 2700 bucks

Could be that it hit the pin on the way by and saved you a 10-15' come backer.

Maybe you got lucky and not robbed at all?

I hope there wasn't a group standing on the tee as you were taking that pic, because if every golfer who hits a good shot took the time to take a picture of the result, 6 hour rounds would be the norm, and i would take up bowling.

It must have taken him at least 10 seconds to snap that pic. Oh no!

Haha, I took the photo while the drunk hack in our foursome, who came up 30 yards short of the green was trying to chunk it onto the green. Didn't hold up play at all.

And for reference, when I took that photo I was facing directly back to the tee box.

It's shots like these that keep me playing. Although I understand completely the feeling of being robbed, been there way too many times, you gained an underlining feeling of satisfaction that will justify all the money spent on this sport.

A true golfwrxer would post something like this: Look how close I got with a set that cost $$$$ this amount of money. If I spend a couple more thousand dollars, just think how much closer it would have been. Lol

Thank goodness I finally got an ace last summer or I wouldn't enjoy telling these stories so much

Thought of another one that would've been "one for the ages"

Sept 2012, Kingsbarns Scotland with 7 other buddies on a Ryder Cup trip. Par 3 8th. Diabolical green that drops way off on the left side. Four buds are in front on the 9th tee watching. Pin in front centre about 4 feet right of this 15 foot cliff in the green. First 3 guys go and all go by the pin and down to the bottom left (where two of the three 4 jack) Anywho, ...

I get up and hit an nice knockdown 9 iron that is tracking. Hits just on the green hops 10 feet, checks and start rolling like a putt at the hole. Clips the pin and ends up 6" behind it, all the guys on 9 tee let out a holler and I thought it was in because it the ball was hidden from view. (Dream course with your buds on a perfect day, that would have been an epic ace)

Caddie told me the previous week he'd had a Dane hole a 3 wood on another par 3 for his first ace ever

Nice shot....when you see it hit off of a leaning flag stick, I think that is when you can call the Sheriff.

Remember, most shots jump forward these days after hitting the green and stop quickly or come back just a touch. Chances are that you did not roll past the hole like a putt and this is how most hole in ones are made.

Still, that's a "golf shot"

It's a good thing not everyone in my foursome hits shots every hole worthy enough to take a photo, never mind more than 1 a round!

Yep I know the type. Got one here at work. They always start with "Oh yeah, that was nothing..." after hearing your story. And he wonders why everyone leaves when he walks up.

just saw the picture in OP.

are you always carrying the greenkeeper equipment? i feel bad for you. you hit a shot close to the hole and stich a new hole, in line to your pithingmark.
we all clearly see, that you just cut the hole in. the real hole is right there, but bad break for birdie (i may understand that)

so youre not robbed. your trolled

just kidding. nice birdie!
