Nike VRS Covert Forged Iron Love thread... Wowzie! Comparison Pics added...

I would like to give some love to Nike for the hidden gem Nike launched this year. We are in the process of gathering all the rankings from our clubfitter panel http://www.golfwrx.c...a/#entry8759112

In the first few rankings we found that these Irons wernt ranked good but they were ranked great. Distance, accuracy and smash were off the charts.

I have personally look hard at these since the rankings are so high and consistent from all reporting in so far.

Quick review:

The purists will run... the golfer looking for tech and performance will not. These are performers on launch monitors for testers. The fitters are saying the same.

Heel to toe they are larger than I am used to but they are playable for sure. The topline while they are not thin they are confident building. Share an Apex look to be honest. The soles are wider than I am used to but they also have a nice leading edge grind.

The body is forged with 1020 and the nexcor face is welded on post milling. The feel isn't bad for the undercut cavity and feels like a crack or snap off the face like you get a pop of acceleration.

Just thought we could get some love for what looks like a serious contender this year. Serious is an understatement.

You know what? I hadn't even really looked at these until you created this thread Richard. I have to say that they look very nice. From address they look as good as anything for me. I will give these a try next time i'm at the store.

they are great irons I've hit them. High beautiful flight without ballooning. Love the stock nippons.

Also love the 4-A covers 22 deg to 51 deg - throw in a pair of wedges and can go hybrid or 5 wood at the top after the 4 iron

Great points. Nippon premium shafts and covers that gap between PW and 56*. I agree with you non ballooning comment also. Great flight and long.

These are my gamers. Best irons of the year. Im on 2 trains, Cobra Bio Cell woods and Nike Covert Forged 2.0 irons. Awesome performers.

What color bio cell?

Great bag. Tech packed and all are looking great in the early testing.

Love the Covert Forged... better than VRS Forged to me in looks & performance, with less offset. Intended to use these as early season gamers, but they're making a case to stay in the bag for the whole year.

If it's not to much effort could someone post more pics at address with long & short irons? Curious to see them vs my vr pro combo's

As a player of the vrs forged 1st gen I gave looked at the second generation with high hopes . For me the toe asethically isn't as appealing in how it sits so I don't think ill upgrade but my irons do need to be upgraded so I will wait until I can hit them on grass to make a final decision

Hey Richard, how do they feel compared to your pro combos?
The 6 iron looks pretty good at address. Doesn't look like muck offset. Clubs look nice. It looks like you could take a screw driver and pop that badge out.

I was going to upgrade from the VRS Forged to the VRS Covert Forged this year but went to Club Champion for a full bag fitting. I ended up upgrading the shafts in the VRS Forged to Project X PXi. I am hitting the ball longer and straighter with the Project X and the shafts feel so smooth when you swing them. The VRS CF's and Project X would be just a little too much for the pocket book to handle. So I just went with the shafts.

I play the VRS Forged, but the Covert Forged are tempting me more and more. I try not to hit them in my simulator any more. They feel great.

I have a set of the VRS Covert Forged irons coming any day now with KBS C Taper Lite X shafts. Even though there's 3" of snow on the ground, the anticipation is wearing me down. These clubs are drastically underrated!

Ball striking isn't the strongest part of my game. I've played VR Pro Blades, VR Pro Combo, and most recently the VR Pro Combo CB's all with Nippon NS Pro 950 X shafts. I was all fired up to get the 2014 VR Pro Combo set and was going to stick with the Nippon's since I've played them for 6 years and love the weight and feel. However, having hit the VRS Covert Forged head to head with the 2014 VR Pro Combo's with multiple shafts, it was clear for me that the Covert Forged irons were a winner. I picked up 6mph ball speed with this head/shaft combo.

Most probably don't think about ball speed numbers when you're talking about irons, but I bring this up because it's not a case of 'I hit the 6 iron 204yds'. Believe me, I don't and didn't hit 6 iron 204yds. Yes, I gained distance, but my ball speed numbers jumped significantly, and were very consistent. It wasn't the case of 1/10 on the sweet spot went a mile, I'm confident in the distant control on all of these clubs.

I can confirm that these irons are legit, and they don't look anything like shovels from address, but have excellent feel and so much forgiveness.

I have the VRS Forged in 4-PW shafted with Tour Issue DG X100's and my 3 iron bent to 18* with a PXi 6.5. Each shaft does its job correctly. Ball flight is high and boring but no balloon. I look at long iron shots like I have a 9 iron in my hand.

I am having to get used to the fact I get no roll now. I now find my ball mark within a foot of my ball. The Nippon's flew higher but did not stop like the PXi does. I have actually had a couple shots spin back which I have not done in a vary long time.

Can you tell us more about thes Nipppons? Specifically, how do they compare to CFS(Ping stock) and KBS Tour V? No doubt in my mind that the heads are great. Just worried about stock Nippons.
