**FINISHED/UPDATED PICS as of 3/10 **DIY Black Matte/Paintfill on my New to Me Adams Spedline F11

After having seen various threads here on DIY black matte paint jobs (Deerslayers, in particular) and having gotten some advice from Fairway Sheriff, I decided to give it a try.

Lo'' and behold, I ran across an Adams Speedline (not Spedline) F11 in a used bin that had a good, but not too bad chink out of the finish on the crown. The rest of the club was in very good used shape, it had a Matrix Radix 5.1 stiff shaft in it, and it's demo rounds produced a lot of bombs and a few more yards than the trusty Ping G10 I've been hitting for the past few seasons. I got it at a great price and brought it home in December, but have just now found the time to get to work on it after practicing with matte finishes on some old drivers.

I started with the club's sole yesterday by using paint stripper to pull off all the paint. I wasn't particularly fond of the navy blue, yellow, silver combo. [www.adamsgolf.com/products/.../speedline_f11.php]

I really like the results so far, having used garnet with only a little gold as an accent. The only thing I'm hemming and hawing over is the section towards the toe. There's a brushed metal finish there, or maybe it's some kind of composite, and I can't decide to leave it be or paint it black matte like the crown (when that gets done). That piece has a few zit-sized marks, but nothing too terrible. The matte would cover those pock marks up, but I'm afraid it would also be overkill--plus I like the way the sole looks as is, to be honest.

The head has been sanded, taped, and primed, but the weather is a bit cool and damp, so I'm waiting for it to warm up a bit today before applying the new paint.

I think that "cool" to you and "cool" to me may mean something very different!

Ha! Probably so.

But, the paint can doesn't work well/curing can be an issue below 50 degrees. Plus, I'm between tournaments and its 35 and wet al week. so this was a time when I could shelve it and let it cure without missing it too much. hitting way too well to have it out of commission come mid-March!

Finally got the head sanded down [see pics, I included a couple in progress shots] and painted. I'm happy with the results; just have to be patient and let it cure for another week before putting it in play.

Once I got the pics up I realized the lighting in some of them made the finish look gray. In reality it s black, and the address position pic is truest to the color.

Normal use for a few weeks--no signs of wear and tear under normal usage.
