Architect's WITB

(UPDATES ON PAGE 3)

This is my first WITB post on WRX. I really enjoy viewing this forum to see what everyone else is packing!

The i25 irons just arrived a couple days ago. Last night and this morning were my first practice sessions with them on an indoor launch monitor. My home course is closed until tomorrow due to the recent snow/ice storm, however I am heading out the door now to play another course that has a little less snow on the ground. I've got the itch to play even if I need to wear snow boots!

A little about my game: Handicap (home course) 7.7, Average score: 81 (72.4/127), FIR: 7/14, GIR: 7/18, Putts: 29, Par 3 in regulation: 1.5/4, Par 4 in regulation: 3.5/10, Par 5 in regulation 2/4.

Club distances (yards): Driver: 280, 4-wood: 250, 20-hybrid: 220, 4-iron: 205, 5-iron: 195, 6-iron: 185, 7-iron: 175, 8-iron: 165, 9-iron: 155, PW: 145, UW: 135, 54°: 120, 58°: 95.

My goal is to drop my handicap to a 5.0 by this fall, and I have a practice/game plan that aims to get me there. If not, who gives a ****; I'll have fun trying!

@Qqq123xx & @clinville thanks for the support. Shot a 78 today on a par 71 67.8/113 course; good for a 10.2 GHIN. Not the right direction, but it's early and that was my first round with the new i25 irons/Gorge wedges. Lots of work ahead!

I can only take partial credit for my bag setup. I've been going to Baker's Custom Golf in Tulsa for a couple years now. Brian really pays attention to swing/tempo/preferences. I'm really happy with these irons and how he made them shine despite my flawed ways.

Part nostalgia and part putting aid is why I have the Ping two-tone balls. They are a nice tool to work on one's stroke and path.

Wow amazing detail and camera work, what made u go with the pro launch in the R1?

Starting with the R1 having a low forward center of gravity and low spin had me cranking up the loft on my driver. It also has great forgiveness all over the face, and I love the heavier head weight. Fine tuning the adjustable weight ports added that last touch that makes it feel like this R1 was built for me.

The ProLaunch Blue 65 shaft brought my launch angle up a little more while maintaining a low (2.8) torque. I don't know of many shafts that can achieve both well. I'm sure there are some out there though.

Combining the two keeps most mishits in check, and when hit well produces 1800 rpm low spinning bombs that roll out even farther. I'm no pro and have my off tempo days with it, however I haven't owned a driver that has given me this much confidence.

I have one for this season. I picked mine up for sub-$150!

Only have one round with it so far, but I was impressed! Much longer than my G20.

I am struggling with tuning the weights. I have a weight kit from an old R7. That is what is taking me the most time to figure out.

General inconsistency. I have one gram in the toe and two grams in the heel and it seems okay, but every once in a while a NASTY hook creeps in.

Did you keep the 10 and 1 gram weights in and just work with those or did you go with the weights in a weight kit?

I started with the neutral weight setting (10g toe/1g heel), but shot shape faded too much. Then flipped them (1g toe/10g heel) but was a little too draw biased. Now I have it set to 4g toe/6g heel and that feels about right.

Thanks for the flattering comments MNNikeGuy!

I grew up in western MN myself playing golf through my freshman year in high school. Between burning out, switching to track and field, and "Spring" golf in the upper Midwest (35-degrees with rain and 30mph winds are you kidding me?!?!) I left the game. No time and money throughout college and my early career extended my 20-year break from golf.

When I picked the game back up 4-years ago I tried a handful of putters, including similar Pings to my old Anser 2, but ended up with the Odyssey White Ice 5 mallet. I found that the contrasting stripes of my current Versa 330m built upon what I liked about the WH5.

I love Ping putters and maybe I'll return to them down the line.
