whats in your bag - wedge vokey tvd question

So I'm just really starting to become a student of the game and really have a few questions. I've been playing a while and really didn't pay much attention when I bought wedges. I am currently playing Vokey 54.14 and a 60.8. I am looking at upgrading my wedges and wanted to get some opinions.

A little about my game.

Not a long ball hitter at all.

I think i'm a neutral player...average divots.

Currently play: Driver, 3w, 2H, 3-PW, 54,60, putter.

I kind of wanted to keep to PW, and 2 additional wedges. I thought about pulling my 3 iron in favor of another wedge, but like I said I don't hit the ball far and on some holes can be pretty good ways. That being said I don't pull out the 3iron that often.

So here are my options.

keep 3iron and get a 52, and 58.

I am leaning this way for a couple of reasons. I currently only play my 60 out of the bunker and infrequently for flop shots around the green. I think a 58 might get a little more use than my current 60 does.

The 52 would probably bevy standard club around the green. This option seems simpler to me as well. Just get good with a couple of clubs.

Other option:

go with 3 wedges. this adds a bit more complexity but basically one each of

50/52 and 54,56 and a 58/60

Ok like I mentioned, I'm leaning to option 1 so I have a follow up question for that case.

I really want to get Vokey TVD wedges. My only option for the 52 is the m grind. So my options are get 52m and a 58m grind or a 52m and a 58k.

one option gives me 2 like wedges. I am not sure if this is beneficial.

Or get an m and a k grind and have 2 clubs for different purposes. added flexibility.

Guess I said all that to say I'm leaning toward a 52k and a 58m and wondering what peoples thoughts are. Also for those that aren't long ball hitters do you play more wedges or less.

I don't see the reason for a 2hy and a 3 iron. I would rather have the extra wedge. I can always choke down on the 2hy or hit a high fade with it. Or ditch the 2hy and choke down or high fade with 3w. My point is I like 3 quater swings from 123 in and my 52 56 60 lets me swing the same way more often with the extra wedge instead of backing off or increasing swing speed for the right distance. I'm not attacking a pin with a 2 hybrid or 3 iron. I have tvd k in 56 and 60 and 52 in m (no 52k).

I guess it depends what you are looking for. The K is a wider sole for diggers. I use it and love it, I also have the M grind in my sand wedge and its great! If you read stan utley he advocates a 58 with the M grind with a lot of bounce. He likes the M grind for it's versatility.. If you have any other specific questions let me know!

I'm all for the PW/GW/SW @58*s. Just so you have your course, bunkers, traps, etc. covered in terms of firm/soft fairways, hard/soft sand. I also do not care for 4 wedges. That, however, is something for YOU to decide. ( lots of threads on WRX regarding thoughts on this). I also have driver, 4 wood, ( a good blend of 3 wood/hybrid or 3/5 woods in lofts) then 3 iron down. Like OP said, I'd go 3 wood to 3 iron or 3 wood to hybrid and no 3 iron. Do you have real distance gaps there? If so you're fine, but you may be carrying a club you do not need/use.Again, only YOU can judge that for YOUR game.
To me the bottom line is if you hit various shots well with the wedges then 3 is it. If you like full shots with all your wedges then 4 is a go. Remember folks played for years with PW/SW some still do.

I play a 52 bent to 53 and a 58, and they're great. Nice soft feel, and perfect grind for a medium striker.
