Where the ballers at? Low handi's that don't use a tour ball

Just wondering if there are any low handicaps (7 or less) that play balls that don't have a urethane cover? If so, what do you play? Trying to find a ball that won't hurt my wallet but is still playable.

Why not just stock up on older model tour balls? Can find a bunch of tour balls for around $20 dozen right now.

I don't qualify (though i'm only a bit over 7 now). Was using Top Flite Gamer, tried the tour but durability was poor imo. Still really like the Gamer and I just saw 4 boxes of the Gamer V2's at local Dicks for $12dz.

But honestly it shouldn't hold you back. There are really good deals floating around. In the last two weeks alone I've seen Lethals (good ball) on 3balls for pretty damn cheap (I got 6dz for 127 shipped). Nike was dumping 201X for 14.97 that after 8 dz got you free shipping. Costco constantly has dirt cheap 3pc Callaway balls.

I'm also now in the mid 8's and still using the Duo. Nothing about the ball is holding my game back. There is nothing about the Duo that would prevent me from losing the last 8 strokes off my handicap. Now my brain is another matter lol.

Absolutely!

Since the ball is such an important piece of equipment and the only one used for every single shot I do not want to make a compromise on the ball I play. So I play the one that suits my game best and try to buy them on sales.

With the launch of the 2014 Tour B300 series they are discounting the whole range by 50%. It is without saying that I got myself a few dozen of the 2013 B330S – for half of the price.

Presently using DT Solos, last yrs. version. Might look at the TM (a) ball, or the E5 for this yr. Wife is using Bridgestone Lady ball. Nice feel to it. Might game those too? Love the NXT Tour S, but I find way over priced!

Im a mid who uses a tour ball for no reason. One of the top players in my club plays e (6) 's. Hes in the top 3 moneys winners for our club every year, I think hes a 1 handicap.

I got caught up in the elite ball machine. I now only play elites when I get them for free from wholesalers. I just bought 7 doz Nike 20XI-x for about $86 and I bought 3 doz Chrome + for $56. I think I am set for a few years.
This is also the first year I bought 'new' clubs. Usually they are a couple years old. Also, I will most likely never buy a brand new car. <--- yes, random.... I know.

Agree with finding "tour" balls on the cheap. Picked up 6 dozen Wilson FG Tour X last year for less than $20/dz , super cheap and a sleeper ball

5.8. Yellow DT Solo. (56 years old. Much easier for me to see yellow.)

Gamer V2 for me. I haven't played urethane balls for years.

Again going to have to jump on the tour ball for cheap by buying older models. There are a few sites selling Taylormade Lethals for $25 or so a dozen.

I have been playing balls from lostgolfballs.com. they are great. You can get balls for CHEAP! They are like $.90-2.00 a ball dependingnon brand and condition. They are ranked from AA-AAAAA. I usually buy AAAA balls and they are great. Definitely check them out.

I play the Taylormade Project (a) and while they do have a urethane cover, they can be found fairly cheap. I just bought 3 dozen off eBay for $79 shipped. Absolutely love them, low spin off my drives and good spin off my wedges. Plus they putt like a dream...

a friend of mine plays the mid-tier balls. he says he gets too much spin from the urethane balls.
he is 6'5", weighs 240lbs, used to play in the hooters tours and a few others when he was younger.

Just picked up 9 dozen Callaway i(Z)s for like $15 a dozen.

4 cap who uses a Pinnacle gold here. It's an experiment, but we will see how it goes. I certainly lose fewer balls than when I play premium balls, for whatever reason.

0-I use the Duo, for me it has great feel, I can stop it reasonably well and it has consistent spin on pitches and chips

Given a couple of threads I've seen, isn't it more important what you wear? :-)

Yes, it is far more important! No "power colors" unless you are scratch!

I don't fit in the low hdp conversation at all. However, i would recommend looking for the last year discount balls!

FWIW, I play in some state level am events (all low handicaps) and I don't think I've seen anyone that was not using a tour/urethane ball. I've never had anyone declare "I'm playing a Gamer V2 with two red dots" to the group on the first tee.

Gamer V2 and D2 Feel. But as others have said, why not spend the same $ on a tour ball that's a year old?

One of the best locals in my area uses Precept Laddie's. He can shoot mid to high 60's in any given day.

Me too! As soon as I whip out my ProV1s or Lethals, they go OB or in the drink. I'll hit em in the woods and find a billion other balls but not mine.

I get pissed and whip out my Pinnacle Gold and can't seem to lose it ever. Even going in the woods I always find it. Weirdest thing that bugs the h out of me..

3.2 index, and generally pay about $25 bucks for a dozen balls. For some reason, the balls that work best for me don't command premium prices. I have a couple dozen Pro VIs and some Lethals sitting around, but they just don't perform for me.

A lot of companies make great golf balls these days. You don't have to play a lot to get outstanding performance IMO.

Usually what is found on premium golf balls. It helps with spin around the greens.

I been looking for older callys, can't find them. Where'd you get them?

just be consistent with the ball/type of ball you play. If you play in an area with softer or generally slower greens it will be easier to get away with balls that spin less.

I like soft and cheap. I will be ordering another big batch of used Duos soon.

Great buy on a great underrated ball! Found some close-out TM Penta's from TGW for cheap which I really like but go-to ball of late is Srixon AD333, can be had for a nice price.
