G25 3 wood or 4 wood...which one will be longer?

A lot will depend on your swing/angle of attack...

I use the 4 wood instead of the 3 wood, and I also hit a 12 degree driver a lot further (and more consistently) than the lower lofted versions of the same model driver.

In a separate note, I plan on getting the G25 7 wood to complement my 4 wood. I think the G25 5 wood would have to small a gap with the current 4 wood.

Anyone else do the same?

Totally agree. If you are a strong FW player, can elevate a 3 wood and have a powerful swing the 3 is going further than the 4, but not by miles. 1.5*s probably translates to 8-10 yards or so. Plus, at least with Ping, you're talking same head size, shaft length and shaft so... If you are not that strong with the 3 wood that 1.5*s does translate into getting the ball up in the air quicker, staying there and thus giving many the distance they do not/can not get from a 3. Of course the shaft will play a role in either.
The 4 wood gives you other options that the old 3/5 combo does not.
I like the 4 wood for my game because I just was not using the 5 that much. Big gap between 3 wood and 3 iron. 4 wood fit right in and one less club to carry. As OP said above room for a 7 wood, hybrid or wedge at the other end.
I know you see a lot more of them these days. I think it comes down to if you need a lay up club, a good all around fairway wood the 4 is it. If you need the 3 wood as a second driver plus fairway then that's the way to go.

just picked up a 7 to go with my 4, i will swap it out with a 20h. for what ever reason there are days i hit the fw better and days i hit the hybrid better. its no trouble to take both with and decide before the round unless the course doesnt have a range.

i dont think 1.5 degrees would make to big of a difference distance wise especially since the length are the same but i could be wrong. other manufactures use 15 3w and 17 4w, ive only been playing 5 years and find the 4w a little easier to elevate off the deck

I'm finding I make a better move through the ball with a (16.5º) 4 wood. The ball gets up and lands fairly soft.

I never felt I could hit anything but a 225 yard bump and run shot with a 3 wood.

Replaced my 2009 Cleveland 3w with a PING G20 4w last year. I preferred the gray head/steel face to the all-black G25. I may have lost a bit of distance off the tee, but I'm now pulling the 4w a couple times a round from the fairway, something I never did with my old Cleveland. I didn't mind hitting the 3w off the tee, but off the deck it was less than a 50/50 proposition. The 4w has given me more confidence in those second shots from the fairway, particularly those where the drive was less than adequate, and you find yourself a LONG way from home.

I too have benefited from more loft in the driver and that is what has me thinking that with all other things being equal I might see better performance from a higher lofted fwy wood. I am not fortunate enough to be able to hit them side by side as left handed 4 woods are scarce in my neck of the woods. Are there any of you out there that have “lofted up” also done so with their fwys with positive results? I am currently gaming an 07 burner that I hit well (DSS 98-102) and am looking for a ball flight more like my new SLDR. So shaft recommendations would also help (high launch, low spin). The SLDR fwy is a possibility also it’s just not available in the HL version left handed.

Yeah....4-wood always...it's not the loft but also the number '4' on it ;-)

you'll notice the distance loss from a 4 wood much more on tee shots than from the turf

if you're only using it for long shots from the turf you won't notice a ton of distance loss, if you use the club to tee off with frequently you may start to get annoyed with losing 15-25 yards with a 4 wood vs a 3 wood

for me and the courses I play, I need less than driver off the tee much more frequently than I need a FW length shot off the turf so tee performance is more critical and the distance loss from a 4w is a no go for me.
