Titleist DT SOLO or VELOCITY ? Vote and tell why

freekick

Recommended Posts

All opinions are welcome but mainly its expected to get feedback from people who TESTED BOTH, better players worse players, ball flight, putting, distance, feel, chips, irons driving etc.

All opinions are welcome.

The main reason its to help to buy this ball as they are the Titleist cheapest balls and feedback would be great.

Throw in the NXT Tour S as well. I didn't see any difference between it and the Velocity.

Velocity = Longest & straightest; IMO not a rock; may not hold greens on approach shots as well as tour ball - but you'll get to the green in fewer shots. Haven't tried DT but tried soft E6=short & doesn't hold greens any better then Velocity: Noodle Easy Distance = soft, shortest, balloons, too many dimples = slice + in accurate still not great landing on greens. I could go on & on about softer balls: Velocity will put you on the fairway with a good look at the green.

Example = hit Pro V1x (spinnier ball) on a 100 yd approach shot vs Velocity = 1x curved in the air and landed off the green; Velocity = on target, straight/high, stayed on green; not as far from the hole but not close = pick your poison

Well for what it's worth, in my game the Velocity is like an e6 even moreso. Low spin with a vengeance.

Also in my opinion, a slice is a slice. The ball won't help that at all.

A hard distance rock ilke the Velocity of Pinnacle Gold will get you to the green sooner...as long as the fairways are dry and firm enough and you hit your tee shots straight enough to get 20, 30, 40 yards of roll. No longer on approach shot carry distance though.

i play on a moist course - i'm talking about carry only - a slice that stays on fairway versus jail is always better - i get more unobstructed views to the green then any other ball including the Gold

all i'm saying is that the Velocity flies much straighter & longer (carry) from tee to green then any ball i've ever played

2014 Velocity is supposed to be softer

I've played a lot with both balls and find it impossible to see any difference in performance. Same distance, trajectory and caracteristics, but the DT Solo has a slightly softer sound in the shortgame while the velocity is really clicky. Just the sound though, they behave the same. More or less the same ball marketed at different people.

DT solo is a poor man's NXT Tour S
It flies higher and spins more off the tee, though, so it doesn't fly as far or run much once it gets on the ground..
Spin into the green is nearly as good as either of the NXT balls

Velocity is as long off the tee as anything I've ever played, but does not feel like the rock some here describe it as. Long to middle iron shots run like a scared rabbit on medium to fast fairways..
Short iron approaches are not drop and stop...they will run some. So they don't work well to a front pin, for example. But, once you get used to them they are a very playable ball, most of the time.
Having said all that, I've gone back to the NXT Tour. It is a more predictable ball. I just wish it had the Velocity's extra oomph off the tee.....

Problem with the e6 is it actually costs slightly more than the Velocity...which is saying a lot for a low-spin Surlyn ball.
I agree. If anyone is looking to try the e6 last years models are always on sale for $19.99. Check the clearance racks at GG and GS.

Also the Bridgestone Precept Lady played the same for me as the e6 and it has the standard dimples.
Probably one of the more underrated $20 balls. The yellow version is brighter and more appealing thAn the e6 yellow which is drab.

SoLo is a good ball. Has nice feel on full shots. I don't feel like I have to swing out of my shoes to compress it. If you like it then don't let the ball snobs who say its a hackers ball keep you from playing it. I agree with others that the Velocity feels harder and has a clicky sound. SoLo, like any ball isn't for everyone. My max driver speed is low 90's and I rarely carry a drive more than 230. 5.8 ghin hdcp.

Sure.. Thing is...

I just can't say enough how I hate the Noodle Soft. and how I just loved the Noodle Long and Soft.

I am gaming noodle and I just want to get rid of my last 30 soft balls.

I have these deals now on AAA PEARL used lake balls and the DT Solo seems more appealing.

50 x Dt Solo 35 €
50 x Srixon Q Star 35 €
50 x Bridgestone Fix 33 €
50 x Callaway HX DIablo 37 €
50 x Hex Control 35 €
50 x Nike 1Vapour Blk 40 €
50 x TM Burner 40 €
50 x TM Noodle + L&S 33 €

Lol,

Can anyone help me?

I started this thread because I thought the solo was a great ball but maybe it does not offer what these offer? so Good distance vs green control

How much longer is the velocity over a pro v with the driver?

Are we talking a few yards or major gains?

If im hitting 2 clubs less into the green i would be all for it.
I saw some Titleist testing and they claimed about a 3yd difference between all their balls.

If you could gain 2 clubs via a ball everybody would jump on it. Greenside spin or not.

Personally I wouldn't play either. Sadly the velocity comes off the face of titleist 714 mb's like a rock and the dt solo flys like a pinnacle. I would pick the nxt tours before either of these and there the same price maybe a dollar more.

srixon q star all the way. Great ball for the price and is fairly easy to compress it. As far as the topflight gamer, I couldn't tell you personally but I read a lot of great things about it. Personally I have hated every topflight ball ever made but to each is to his own. The q star is the middle of the road ball, spins when you need it, has respectable distance, and putts soft.

DT SoLo for me, no question. They are my ball for the early season when it's cold and I'm blasting balls OB all over the place, trying to remember my swing. For me they spin better than the velocity on wedge shots, which isn't saying much. But they are still a couple bucks cheaper. I don't notice much of a difference from any ball off the tee, honestly. I think it's mostly between the ears.
