G--I like the sound and the feel on the M1. It has a different sound than the Vapor Pro, but it's good. I've gotten used to the Nike sound. I think the M1 thuds a little more due to the carbon. Not bad...just different.

It would take a lot more than I'm getting right now to make me upgrade. The M1 has already beaten the R15 numbers for me and the Great Big Bertha from the early trials. Gonna try the GBB today with a different shaft. Just for the heck of it. But I'm sure the Vapor is staying.

    Vapor Fly 3 HL Mini-Review:

    Little background info:

Let me start by saying that 3 wood off the deck has been the bane of my golfing existence. I hate that shot. I usually only try to hit 3 wood off the deck if there is a lot of room for the miss. If..and a big IF..I hit it solid, my carry numbers have been pretty pathetic due to the low launch. A 220 forced carry would leave me with the decision to risk a big number by going for it, or laying up...sometimes with 9 or PW. It's been a very frustrating go with it.

I have tried various other 3 woods to try and replace the VR LTD, but nothing really stood out performance wise. Recently I had a Vapor Flex 3 wood and went through a variety loft settings and shafts. I tried the Vapor Speed, but couldn't get comfortable with the shape. I had a Callaway XR Pro 16 that I hated. The closest option to being a good fit was the Cobra Bio Cell + 3 wood with the Diamana Black 72. It was really good until it developed a head rattle. Cobra fixed it under warranty, but when it came back it didn't have the same feel or sound. So I lost all confidence in it and out it went.

Vapor FLy 3 HL enters the picture.

I was extremely excited when I heard Nike was going to offer a 17 degree fwy (at std position), I knew this would be the next fairway wood experiment. I took a shot that the stock Tensei 65 F would be an ok fit. If not, I have a variety of shafts that I could try.

VR LTD vs FLY 3 HL

VR LTD 3 wood (15 degrees) with Fubuki Z Fwy Stiff (numbers recorded the last time I hit it before selling)

    Avg Launch: 9.1

    Avg Carry: 213

    FLY 3 HL (17 N) with Tensei 65 F Stiff

    Avg Launch: 13.3

    Avg Carry: 237

The VR LTD has always been my favorite 3 wood off the tee, but killed me off the deck. No matter the shaft, and I tried quite a few. The best shaft for launch off the deck was the stock Diamana 75, but dispersion was all over the place. The 3 HL has so far proven to be a much better fit for me off the deck. It launches easy and has gotten my carry up significantly. I've never been a big hitter with the 3 wood off the ground, but i could live with 235-240 carry. The stock shaft might be a little bit spinny, but I'm not going to argue with my carry numbers so far when struck solidly.

I will admit....I've jumped the gun praising some fwys in my life. While this new 3 HL has proven to be better than any other option I've tried in the simulator (and I basically hit everything we get in), I'll give a final assessment after some time on the course.

Vapor Fly 3 hybrid review will come soon.

To be honest...I hijacked one of our demos. It's pretty good. It looks like I'll be able to play this one at 10.5 instead of 11.5 with last years Pro. That helps big time with the face angle..or at least how it looks to me. Same white tie shaft. Only got to hit range balls unfortunately. Course was packed by the time I got out of church and had lunch.

I have the 3(20) with the Diamana S+ 80. I think I'm going to like it. The range was really muddy so it was hard to tell off the deck. Off a short tee it was good. Good launch and was going roughly 210 which is perfect for me. I like the size too. Not big like a fwy wood.

This will be a review of recent changes to the bag.

    Driver:

    Last year: Nike Vapor Pro (11.5 N) w/Matrix White Tie 60 S

    This year: Nike Vapor Fly (10.5 N) w/Matrix White Tie 60 S

I played the Vapor Pro virtually all of last year. For the most part, the driver was very solid. My only dislike was the launch angle. Even at 11.5 with the high launching White Tie, I had to be absolutely perfect to hit the ball at a decent height. I never left the course saying "I hit it to high today." I did for awhile have the loft set at 12.5, but even in the "Right" setting, the driver looked hook-faced (another no-no for me). But..the driver did have a tendency to stay in play and I loved the shape and feel, so the driver stayed in the bag.

So this year, I decided to move to the higher launching model of the three Nike drivers, the Vapor Fly. Visually, this driver looks better than last year's Vapor Speed driver. It's shape never really fit my eye. The re-design appearance of the Fly really stood out to me. The Fly Pro looks better still, but the added forgiveness and high launch of the Fly made me want to give it a shot. While I'm still trying to dial it in (I've been bouncing back and forth between 9.5 and 10.5), results have been promising. I can already tell the mis-hits are way better than the Vapor Pro. Distance has been hard to compare because my course is a mud pit and pretty much every drive is plugging in the fairway or rough. My carry seems to be good though.

The one thing I'm not sure on right now..well maybe two things..is the shaft which will affect loft (although I'm not ruling out a somewhat inconsistent driver swing right now). Some hits with the White Tie seems to just float out there..almost like its spinning way too much. Again..my course is a mud pit and a yard or two of roll is a lot right now so I'm not going to make any rash decisions, but I might have to look at another shaft. I have a Tensei 60 Stiff, but I haven't really gotten along with the feel of it yet. The feel of the White Tie blows the Tensei away. Right now, I think I've settled on 10.5 N as the loft/face angle setting. That will probably change depending on any shaft change.

    Fairway Wood:

Last year: Nike VR LTD 3 w/Fubuki 70 Stiff

    This year: Nike Vapor Fly 3 HL (17 N) w/Tensei 65 F Stiff

Although various 3 woods made an appearance last year, the VR LTD has been a mainstay in the bag for the last few years. Off the tee, it's been an absolute beast of a club. It's probably still my favorite fairway wood ever. The look...the feel...the sound...all were top notch. But for all the love off the tee, the LTD was just as bad for me off the deck. Original talk said this club was 15 in loft, but played effectively to a 13. Not sure if that is true or not, but off the deck this club was almost useless for me. And it didn't seem to matter what shaft I tried. Ahina 70 Stiff. Fubuki Z 70 Stiff. UST Axivcore Black 70 Stiff. Only the stock shaft would help with the launch, but dispersion was horrible.

When I heard that Nike would be releasing an adjustable 3 HL (17) this year, I was more than excited. I had tinkered with a few 4 woods over the last few years (X Hot Pro...Cobra Bio Cell +...Flex..), but never truly committed to one. After talking to Nike, I decided to try the stock Tensei shaft because it is supposedly a high launch shaft. My time so far has been fairly limited with the Fly on the course. I've spent more time with the driver, even hitting it on tee shots that I normally hit 3 wood, so I have sacrificed some time getting used to the club. But so far, off the tee I've had no problem adjusting to the Fly. The ball jumps off the face and it gets up in the air without ballooning. I've very pleased with the ball flight. I've yet to really put a good swing on it off the deck on the course. Combine that with the mud, I haven't been able to give the 3 HL a fair test. In the simulator, I've had some pretty good numbers from the mat, so I'm excited for dryer ground and for my swing to come around. I think I've found a fairway wood that I can stick with for awhile.

    Hybrid:

Last year: various-Nike Covert Tour 1.0 3 (21 N) has been the most recent

This year: Nike Fly Pro 3 iron (bent 1 weak to 20*) w/Recoil 95 Stiff

Hybrid is another one of those clubs that tends to bounce around a little for me. I had a Vapor Flex 3 hybrid to start last season, but never fell in love with it. I later picked up the Flex 4 hybrid, but it was just ok...didn't really cover the yardage I needed. I demo'd a few used hybrids but ended up going back to my old CT 1.0. It has seen a lot of bag time since it was first released.

My first experiment this year was with the new Fly hybrid..3 stiff with the Diamana S+. Some guys have said they hate the shape, but I thought it looked great behind the ball. Similar to the older VR Pro with a little more size. At first, I thought I was going to like it, but something began to feel off about it. I'm going to be extremely picky here, but it felt hard...way different from the fairway wood. I hit some good shots with it, but just couldn't get past that sound and feel.

So after seeing the Fly Pro long irons showing up in a bunch of PGA tour bags (not the best reason to give it a shot..I know..poser quality here), I thought "What the Heck. Let's give one a go." In comes the Fly Pro 3 iron. Although the Recoil 95 feels a good bit stiffer than I thought it would, I like this club so far. Off the tee it looks like it carries 220 or so when hit solidly. I need to get out and laser some to know for sure. It's easy to hit off the deck as well. I was able to fly it 207 uphill into the wind during my first round with it (only time I got to hit it that day). The feel of the iron is great. I also really like the size and shape. It's almost perfect (in my eyes) for a long iron. (Side note: it's not that many really, but I've hit 50 or 60 balls with it in the sim and now outside..both off the deck and off a tee..and the finish is still perfect) I almost want to add a 4 iron to replace my VPC 4 iron, but I'm holding off on that thought for now. I still love my VPCs. I'll try and update it as I go.

I am on fence like you about the hybrid. I started with the fly pro 4 iron but my consistency with that club was good so I got the fly hybrid. When I tried the 3 at GS with the the tensei shaft it get crisp but on the range with my 4h felt like what you described. I like the flight and your description of the shape is pot on. I have a recoil 95 on the way for the hybrid and I'll see how that goes

Sorry man..forgot to respond. Hows the hybrid with the Recoil? I've actually gone back to the old VR Pro II hybrid. Got the 3 in the PX 5.5. One of those weird combos for me. Shaft is way to weak and goes to the moon. Funny thing about it is it hits the yardgage I need perfectly so I'm making do with it. Just gotta play for a BIG draw.

Also added the Method Origin B2-01 to the bag. Ordered the 353 gr custom head at 34 in and 1* up. So far, it's been a great addition to the bag. I really like my Oven Proto 11, but it's good to change things up every once in a while.

Played a few holes tonight after my store hosted a demo day.

Really liking the Origin. Putted solid again with it. Could just be me, but it feels softer off the face than my old 001.

Vapor Fly driver and 3 HL with their respective White Tie shafts are getting to where I want them. Doesn't hurt that my swing is finally starting to feel good.

I had thoughts are dumping the S300s for another set of shafts, but that's out for now. Iron game has been a strong point for the last few rounds. I can honestly say that I have no desire whatsoever to get rid of my VPCs.

Driver: I have tried virtually every new driver from late last year through the current releases. The 2016 M2 with the Rogue Black 60 Stiff, which has been in the bag since November, has given me the best number so far. The only negative is that I had TM cut it down to 45, the SW dropped to C9...hence the need for all the lead tape. Six strips got it back up to roughly D3. Loft is 10.5 set 1 notch higher.

Fairway Wood: At the same time as the driver purchase, I picked up a M2 3 (15) with the Aldila Tour Blue 70 Stiff. It was good off the tee, but not so good off the ground (pretty much the story of my life with fwy woods). So I sold the 15 and picked up a 3 HL (16.5) and installed the stock Fuji 70 from the M1 fwy. Much better fit. So far the 3 HL has been just as solid as the std 3 wood off the tee and is much easier to elevate off the turf.

Hybrid/Irons/Wedges: Nothing has changed here. I still love my Nike VPCs and the Engage Wedges. I don't foresee changing them until the grooves are gone. The VR II hybrid 3 is good enough. It goes really high and plays the yardage that I need.

Putter: In December I swapped over to a Scotty Golo 5r and had some initial success. But I recently swapped back to my Nike Origin B2-01.

**I have an Epic head that I've been tinkering with. Its the std model, not the SZ. I've tried it with three or four shafts and just haven't been able to find a fit that is better than my M2. The closest in performance was with the Rogue Max 65 Stiff. I hit some really good drives with that combo, but the M2 ended up being a little longer and more consistent.

    Nice bag buddy!

Can't wait for you to try out your M2's against the 17's M1 and M2.

What ball are you gaming now? TP5x?

Right now..I'm working through my stash of Rzn Tour Plats and Dot Plats. TP5x is definitely on the radar to try. I'm hoping to get some samples from the rep if he ever shows back up. I tried the Chrome Soft X back in December and it was fine around the greens and on irons. Kind of fell out of the sky with driver (but in its defense I was hitting driver pretty rough during those rounds...might give it another go). The new ProV X is really good. New B330s is solid as well. We just got the 2017 Srixon Z Star line in. Need to those too.

I think right now if you told me I had to change...it would be the '17 ProVX. Launches off the driver and hop and stop around the greens. I loved the performance when I played it last week.

Definitely looking forward to getting on the course with these for a full round. Only short game work so far but they have impressed me.
