Lower compression, non-tour speed ball...the ICON?

Arguably the Titleist ProV1/V1x line is the icon for premium urethane balls.

This is based on quality,advertising, sales, and tour use. No, I'm not saying it's absolutely

the best ball period. But it is the standard bearer.

Which ball would you say carries the torch for the lower compression, non-tour speed group?

I'm not talking necessarily about your personal preference, just general perception.

I'm not sure if this is about compression, durability, or price. My question really is:

If you eliminate tour urethane balls, what is perceived as the icon ball by the golfing public?

If we are going by just sheer numbers, I would say the e6. It's a Surlyn cover, 46 compression, 3 piece golf ball that feels soft and holds it's line better than anything out there. I have heard a ton about the Duo, the Supersoft, and the NXT Tour, but by the people I meet the e6 is the winner in the mid-price range.

When starting this post, I thought that years ago it would have been a Top Flight ball. Then maybe the Lassie/Laddie.

But you're right, I currently hear most about the Bridgestone E series, the NXT, and the Duo.

I prefer a urethane ball that flights a little lower. But I've wondered which non-urethane ball is the preceived leader.

The most popular surlyn/ionomer covered balls are by far the NXT Tour and e6.
