The XV model before the new spin skin model can pretty much stand up to anything, ESPECIALLY the tour yellow! For whatever reason the yellow does a better job at hiding or masking scuffs, including those from cart paths. This ball hits a cart path, the cart path is scuffed!!!

Give the taylormade tour preferred x a shot. The more I play this ball the more I like it. The durability is better than the pro v1 x, and I personally believe it's a better ball all around. I really want to try the cally sr3 and RZN Black or platinum and put them through the paces to determine the best from a durability standpoint, but I haven't been able to locate any single sleeves as I don't want to drop 50 bucks on a dozen of each. If I find anything better than the TPX I will post a review of the ball.

Personally since I got new clubs two years ago (with the new complying grooves) I haven't had a problem with any ball. I've mostly played Lethal, ProV1, Z-Star and they all hold up well. The same balls with my older non-conforming groove Ping irons and wedges would get little gill type marks on them and be pretty much shot after 18 holes. My new clubs will pay for themselves by not destroying balls anymore.

Golfsmith sells the single sleeves.

Might be a dumb question, but where are they located? I looked over where all the golf balls are at but no dice. Maybe my particular branch just doesn't have them?

This is totally true, the 2012 model of the Z-Star XV in Tour Yellow is almost indestructible, seriously I think there is some sort of magical force field around them. I've yet to come across another tour level ball anywhere close to the durability of the yellow 2012 Z-Star XV, I've hit cart paths VERY HARD on the fly using the XV with my driver and there was barely a mark on the ball at all.

Had the same problem for years and then switched to the Bridgestone B330. Will never go back!

The Z Star XV yellow pre spin skin is the most durable ball ever, premium or otherwise.

I have 6 dozen of the yellow Z Stars (pre spin skin) so I won't need new balls for the next decade with how little I play. I played them before with non conforming vokey, cleveland, and scratch wedges and they definitely held up better than any other ball I played with urethane cover.
