I generally play ProV1x but we've been having some nasty wind days in South Louisiana here lately, does anyone here swap balls if it's 15-20mph plus on a certain day?

Any you'd recommend?

I think the best is the srixon xv--great windball, cuts thru and stops....the v1x kills me in the wind, I have to club up alot and the increased backspin once the ball hits the green is too much... the differnce seems to be close to 20 yards on 150-160 yard shot.

If you're indeed an 11 index, I would think that you should be talented enough to learn how to knock the ball down. Two extra clubs and a lower trajectory usually does the job in most extremely windy conditions. And if you stay with the V1X you'll have enough ball to control the trajectory as well as the spin and stopping power. Learn to control your ball instead of changing balls for different conditions.

That's certainly something I need to work on. The gusts aren't something we deal with in South Louisiana much and my natural ball flight gets up in the air.

I've been trying to do some of the stuff Luke Donald talks about in that Mizuno Masterclass series on Youtube but the club up, punch low doesn't come as natural as some aspects of the game... I tend to have a lot of right to left ball flight when I try it.

Bridgestone B330. Actually have been told that they cut through the wind better than any ball. I have noticed it to be much better than a pro v on a windy day. Has to do with the dual dimple pattern. Haven't seen numbers in hand but have a buddy that has been to the factory and seen it first hand on the robot.

Thanks
Adam

+1 on Bridgestone. I play the 330S and it is great in the wind even though it is more of a spin ball. Played it in Scotland winds last year with no problems.

Central Oklahoma here. We get high winds this time of year too. I use a lower compression ball like a bridgestone e6 or titleist dt solo. I try to use way too much club into the wind and hit straight choke down knock downs. I use way less club than the yardage calls for down wind, shockingly so, elevation control is more important than impact speed. Cross wind from the left always hit the trap draw (rightie). Cross wind from the right hit the high fade. Good luck.

Another vote for the Srixon XV, I'm starting to see a trend.

The entire Srixon Z-Star series are serious performers. I've played just about every premium ball on the market over the past 5 years and these things are at the top of my list. I play the yellow ones. They are extremely durable and I always know which ball in the foursome is mine.

The fact that three people took the time to send PMs on the XV told me all I needed to know... All saying they came from ProV1x.

So, I picked up a dozen yesterday and will give them a go this weekend...

Another one for me on the cheaper end is the Bridgestone FIX. This is my October to April ball. Great in the wind, long off the tee and decent feeling for a $20 dzn. My normal ball is the B330 RXS or Hex Tour Black.

Yeah I discovered it by accident. In early March of last year, I was playing in a blizzard bust out type scramble. Obviously in southcentral PA that was my 1st round of the year. I think it was like 30 degrees and about 20 MPH wind at tee off at 9am. Anyway the night before I am getting my bag ready and I have that O bleep moment when I realize I have no balls for tomorrow. It's like 8:30 Friday night and the only place I can remotely think about getting balls was K-mart down the road, which has almost no golf dept. So I go in and my choices were like Nitros, these half orange/half red balls and yellow sponge bob balls. Awesome. Then I see the Bstone FIX. I'm like sweet, I'm getting these. By default they are better than anything else they had. Played them the next day and was shocked how well they performed. Held the wind, good green side action....so they have become my default cold weather ball.

Got some RXSs as well as the XVs so over the course of 36-45 holes this weekend we'll see what wins out... Got rid of all my Titleist clubs, now it's time for the ball to go.

Did you have a falling out with Titleist or did you just feel like making a change for the Spring?

Played 18 today, half with the XV and half with the RXS... So far, the RXS has the early lead. It had a little more pop for me and felt nice off the putter. Had a nice eagle opportunity (tap in birdie) off a 4 wood from 240ish, had 15 feet or so... Really penetrating flight through a left to right wind.

Don't think I could tell the difference between a ProV1x and an XV in a blind test on full swings. So, in a way that's a good thing although not what I was looking for.
