Maybe - Titleist is the Most Misplayed Ball in Golf ???

The problem with the Bridgestone 330 is that it's inconsistent.

Yes that ball has a soft sound (good) and sometimes carries a long way. The problem is that it's unpredicatable when the ball will carry extra far. Titleist Pro V may not carry as far or sound as soft as a B330, but Titleist is absolutely predictable in its carry distances.

The B330 is like the low compression balls, nice sound but inconsistent distance carries.

"Titleist Can Talk Spin, But They Cant' Spin The Facts."

"The Bridgestone Ball Fittling Challenge has the industry talking. After fitting thousands of golfers,

the results have been impressive - 70% of golfers tested gained an average of 13 yards in driving

distance. Hitting approach shots with a 7-iron, instead of of a 5 or 6-iron, has created better scoring

opportunities, and new Bridgestone believers. Does this have Titleist ® worried? Their recent ads

tout spin over distance as the key to scoring. Fine, until you read Golf Magazine's recent test results:

Bridgestone's B330-S goes 6 yards farther than the Pro-V1 ® with similar spin. Maybe the most

played ball in golf is the most misplayed ball in golf?"

.... sounds like mudslinging to me in the corporate world of Marketing ...

I have tried tried to find a cheaper replacement for the pro v 1 x I tried the bridgestone both 330 and 330 s the taylor made srixon you name it I have tried it the closest I have come is Nike platnium the 07 model. It compares in distance to the pro v1x the pro v x is stilll the longest ball out there that you can spin.... the one advantage that i have found with the 07 platnium is the ball doesnt spin so much that you have to throw the ball past the pin and bring it back.... most of the time it hops and stops pretty near the ball mark. I dont have to worry about too much spin. I cant play the pro v 1 due to the excessive spin. Still to me the PRO V 1 x is hands down the top ball out there if only they would drop the price.........

You know it's funny. I spin the Pro V1X more than the Pro V1 off the irons and wedges. The Pro V1 flies lower for me...It's like it does the opposite I would think on everything except the driver. It just flies off of that...

My friends said I was crazy, but I found the same to be true... It really confuses me, but I'm really thinking about switching to the V1 from the V1x. I had never tried the V1 because I spin the ball a lot, but after receiving several free dozen of the ProV1 I but them in play... what a surprise!

Never noticed this at all for me.

But then again, I never noticed this with any ball I've used.

Are your inconsistant distance carries with woods/irons/wedges?

Seems strange as at this point all the premium multilayer balls perform pretty much the same (with small differences of course).

First of all I am guilty as anyone in this. But it still amazes me that equipment hos that will drop $500 on a driver or many times that on a TOUR ISSUE driver, or $300 on a cheap Scotty - will spend threads and threads debating on whether balls are $5 or $10 too expensive per dozen.

Rofl couldn't agree more.

For me, it's v1x's for the same reason someone else stated above- because I know exactly what they'll do. Do they perform the best? Maybe not, maybe so.

Do they perform the same way every time? Yep, and to me, thats way more important. Someone gave me a sleeve of b330s and I liked them, but they were maddening to chip and pitch with, because sometimes they check more and sometimes less.

I'd rather have slightly less spin all the time than sometimes more and sometimes less.

You know way back in the early eightys when I was working at a tour site I will never forget all those balls coming shipped into us.

They were for the sales reps to give out to the players. Back then it was Wilson staffs, Maxflis, Spaldings, Tourneys

they all clearly said on each dozen box tour select. Then there were the titelist no labels. Hey the rep ordered and extra forty dozen to make sure he had enough to the pros account. Promising to clear up with credits later.

It just reaffirmed what I alread knew. Titelist the best ball in golf its a quality control thing.

I play the Prov1x with my little pipsqueak 90 mph swing (hey I am almost 60)

No doubt there our balls I can hit farther but everytime I hit one it performs the same. Knowing how far something is going to go is kind of important if you play golf.

I have tried several other balls the new Taylormade Black comes close as soon as the weather gets nicer I will try the Bridgestone 330 s Have not tried them yet.

But dont think its a joke my friends its not that Titelist goes farther or spins more its that each ball you buy does the same thing.

Quality Control you look that up in the Encylopedia and there is a picture of a Titelist :cheesy:

That's a valid point. Yet at the same time we don't (I hope), drop our clubs in the water as frequently as we do golf balls. I like the ProV1 (and have four dozen, all of which I have found), but until my game is more consistent I'll pay for a less expensive ball.

Well my swing is pretty consistant, I will try to qualify for the senior am again this year (missed last year) but I am not to proud to play the pro v1's I find, I walk the course every other night getting my excersice and know where to look for balls and some nights I find 20 and some times I only find nineteen :cheesy: and of those two or three will be pro v1's and if they are good I play them, if not I give them away (or to the grandkids to sell this summer!) so I keep my expenses down, I play about 125 rounds a year and use about three doz new balls a year (tourneys and club championship) so cost per round is not so bad, but like another poster said if you're going to pay $500 bucks for a "tour" driver don't complain about $45 for a doz golf balls, it is just part of golf.

wow

This might need to be a new thread. I burn up old balls when the weather is bad the course is full of mud you know dead winter.

The rest of a season I use about a ball around sometimes two.

Just the same three dozen balls a year is amazing

Honestly I wonder what the average is. I seldom hit a ball in the water or out of bounds or loose one. So come on guys how many balls do you use a round?

Ken,

As tight as I am if I lived in the NC area I would play one ball all year long!!! :cheesy: With all the pine trees and open area! Except near Pinehurst if you play the Pit better take a doz with you!

Hate to play Devil's Advocate, but . . .

What do the top three golfers

.on the World Golf Ranking

.on the Money List

.on the GIR list

.on the FedEx points list

have in common?

(Hint: None of them play a Titleist)

Ok, so we simply ignor the fact that the: # 4, # 5, # 9, # 11, # 12, # 16, # 17, # 18, # 19, and the # 20 ranked player in the world do play a Titleist?

GIR? What about scoring average? 5 of the top 10 on Tour in scoring average play Titleist. Or maybe you'd be more impressed with proximity to hole stats, where Titleist ball players take up 6 of the top 10 spots on Tour in that catagory.

Then there is the fact that Titleist has the top ball on Tour in both driving distance, and putts per round. The top 10 putters on Tour currently play a Titleist ball. 5 of the top 10 in driving distance play a Titleist ball, as well as 5 of the top 10 in driving accuracy....6 of the top 10 in sand saves...etc etc etc etc.

Making an argument against the Pro V with stats from Tour is a rather poor tactic. I'd say Titliest is clearly the most successful ball currently played by the best players in the world. Tiger Woods is an anomaly, and what he's playing is irrelevant, so it's hard to include him in this discussion at all.

Actually the top 3 golfers on the world rankings were playing a Titleist when they became the top 3. Tiger was playing a titleist when he became #1 and lost it to VJ when he switched to Nike. Phil became # 2 when he played Titleist and fell to #3 when he swithed to Cally. But being in the top 3 brings in some nice endorcement money. If you go off of today's money list, 14 of the top 15 played Titleist when moving to their career peak.

The point is:

What the pros play and who wins with what, is good for advertising and marketing only. Products results are mainly determined by endorsement money, not product superiority. One of these days everyone will figure this out and all this crappola about this being better than that won't waste site bandwidth.

I think any v1 user should give the 330s a try. I found one the other day and played it. IMO I though it spun more around the green than the v1. And i gained probably 10 yards off the tee and hit two or three drives that were 30 yards longer than my average. Probably the two longest drives of my life. I never would have tried them. Now I need to get a few dozen.

I couldn't agree more. I have been a looong time Pro-V1x player and I have discovered nearly the same ball at half the price.. It's the Bridgestone e5+.

I somewhat I agree...

I was at the Haggin Oaks golf expo last weekend and I took the bridgestone ball fitting challenge...

I had already hit about 150 driver shots since I was testing out drivers so by the time I got to the bridgestone booth I was pretty beat. This definitely effected my form because I was opening my clubface up a ton... I normally fight a slice but this was really bad. they had a really good launch monitor there and I hit 5 prov1x shots and 5 e6+ shots. the clubhead speed on the prov1x was actually 3-4 MPH faster than when I hit the e6+ (110-114 MPH) but the ball speed was roughly 10-20 MPH faster. unfortunately I had about 5k rpm's of sidespin so I couldnt tell you about the spin off the ball, I also just used a driver and no iron shots.

I played saturday with the free e6+ I got from bridgstone and I liked them a lot. I will probably replace them as my cheap ball at the very least instead of nxt tours.
