The one course that just DOES it for you

All of the Bandon courses, Sand Hills, the Kohler courses, Arcadia Bluffs, and We Ko Pa. I think I covered all types of courses the good old USA has to offer.

Kaluyhat at Turning Stone resort. We usually take a weekend trip out there once a summer. It's a very tough track, long, lots of forced carry, tons of bunkers, high grass, water. I just love the challenge of trying to shoot a good score there. I usually come away bruised and battered, but whenever I can manage a decent score I feel pretty damn good about it.

Played - Plantation Course @ Kapalua

Not Played - The Old Course at St. Andrews. Simply because of the history. I wonder if I could even hold the club on the first tee, knowing I would be nervous.

Sage Valley (Aiken, SC). It's just stupid nice, and the fact that it's a "destination" club means basically everything is in perfect shape all the time. The little touches (old school caddies, playing Amazing Grace, the total lack of things unrelated to golf) make it a truly special place. The extra holes and staying at on-course cottages, coupled with the quality of the golf, make it the closest to Augusta National that I'll ever get.

Since I cannot choose Augusta I will go with the Old Course at St. Andrews and as a Jersey boy, Pine Valley. A combination of history and one of the most challenging courses. I suspect that Pine Valley would chew me up and spit me out, but I think I could play a semi-decent round at the Old Course if I was not overcome by adrenaline.

Played: Firestone South Course, played there 2 weeks after Hunter Mahan won a few years back, incredible experience after seeing it on TV so many times. If you think you're really good ... play a tour course from the tips and get a look at how the big boys do it, crazy tough but awesome all at the same time.

Not played: Crystal Downs ... I have heard countless stories of how amazing this course is, vacationed within 5miles of the place every summer as a kid, and somehow have never managed to get through the gates. I've been presented with a few half hearted "I can get us on there' offers ... but it hasn't panned out just yet.

He said I couldn't mention Augusta National so I didn't. But since you asked...
Augusta National, Pebble Beach, and Pine Valley would be my answer (I just thought they were the obvious choices).
