Best shops in Tokyo for used clubs?

Mizunofan

Recommended Posts

I am traveling to Tokyo in mid-September and would love to pick up some gently-used JDM-only gear. I used to live there back when I was in college and know that Victoria Golf in Shinjuku is great for new stuff, but I don't know where to go for used clubs.

Can anyone recommend specific shops in the Tokyo area? I heard that the majority of the used golf shops are in the Kanda area.

Thanks in advance!

"Golf Partner" specializes in used clubs. Just Google it and you'll find locations all around the Tokyo area. You can also search online. Almost all club inventory is online and you can have it shipped to your hotel the next day.

You won't get any fakes and the quality/condition will be better than advertised.

You can also go to Okachimachi (御徒町) which is on the Yamanote line (the major line the circles Tokyo) one stop from Akihabara. There are many shops along the street just outside the station exit. Bring your passport with you because you don't have to pay the 8% sales tax and you can negotiate prices for used and new gear with all the shops. All the salespeople have a calculator in their back pocket. :)

Thanks for the info.! I will definitely check out both Golf Partner and the shops in Okachimachi. Until now, I've always bought new model year leftovers from Victoria in Shinjuku. I figure I may be able to score some real finds in the used shops.

I visit Tokyo and other cities in Japan often, and lived there for multiple years. For your reference and others, I've copied below the note I've sent to multiple people asking for store recommendations over the years..... I believe the google map links are all current.

Tokyo Golf Store Recommendations

There are a bunch of golf stores to check out in Tokyo. Below is my description of several. I've attached a google map link to each mentioned so you can find the location and browse street photos of them in Google, find directions from your hotel, etc.

If you are looking for good used equipment - the largest single used equipment store I know of in Tokyo is the Golf Garage. It's 4 floors of golf equipment. There is also a Jypers golf shop around the corner but it's not very interesting. Golf Garage is located one block from the Shimbashi metro station.

Google map link to Golf Garage ==> https://goo.gl/maps/tQxqEQku3dT2

Another good used shop is Festival Golf. Their main shop is located in Ueno in the Ameyoko shopping area, just down the road from the Kotobuki and Niki Golf mentioned with directions below. It’s on the 4th floor of the Ameyoko Center Building. They also have a small shop in Shinjuku.

Google map link to Festival Golf Ueno ==> https://goo.gl/maps/SLXcafK5jk42

Google map link to Festival Golf Shinjuku ==> https://goo.gl/maps/8KT9iGCvY3J2

There are also a number of smaller used golf equipment chain stores located around the Tokyo area. The largest chain is the Golf Partner. If there is one near your hotel, it's worth browsing to see what they have. If you know what you want, they can also check the online inventory of other stores for you.

If you want to explore new golf equipment, there are a ton of stores. Here are some of the most popular.

Biggest chain store would be Victoria Golf. They have several stores in Tokyo - I've been to the two largest, the Shinjuku and Kanda stores,. The Shinjuku store is kind of the flagship store. It's something like 8 floors of golf equipment and clothes. The Kanda store is 5 or 6 floors. The Kanda store is also right down the street from the Tokyo Mizuno store - the top floor of this store is the golf floor. They have a selection of Mizuno clothes, shoes, clubs, bags and balls etc. for sale on this floor.

Google map link of Mizuno Sporting Goods store in Kanda ==> https://goo.gl/maps/ofoRcRpvmL62

Victoria golf has also opened up a couple of smaller golf shops in Tokyo area called Double Eagle. They carry a subset of the higher end clothes, clubs etc. You might see one of the small stores in a couple of shopping plaza's but the store in Ebisu is a stand-alone store that is in a nice neighborhood. Worth checking out if near your hotel. My guess is their target audience is the lady golfers, as the ladies golf clothing section is good, and they are decorated to feel like a boutique.

If you only have time to go shopping in one place, I would recommend the Ameyoko area on the street immediately to the west of the Okachimachi Station on JR Yamanote line that runs parallel to the train tracks. There are multiple shops all located within easy walking distance.

First place to shop here would be Kotobuki Golf. They have 2 stores on this street. The main 4 story shop is just to the South of the train station. The smaller shop is to the North and located next to the other stores I will mention. Go to the main store to the South first. It's a large 4 story store and has all the latest equipment.

Google map of Kotobuki Golf Stores ==> https://goo.gl/maps/dLGZ98j9Br12

Next place to check out would be Niki Golf. It is just north of the Okachimachi Station on the same street as the Kotobuki main store. There are two Niki Golf stores just up the road to the North of the station. The larger of the two is 4-5 floors and is located on the street that runs parallel to the rail tracks and is right next to the smaller Kotobuki store I mentioned above.

The last place I would check out in this area would be the Festival Golf store. Festival Golf deals in mostly used clubs but also has a few new ones and has new clothes, bags, accessories etc. There are a couple of other Festival stores in Tokyo area, but if in the Okachimachi Station area, there is one located on the 3rd and 4th floors of the Ameyoko Center Building. This building is just a bit further North on same street that runs parallel to rail line.

Lastly, if you are really pressed for time, one good way to see some Japan golf equipment is check out the nearest Bic Camera or Yodobashi Camera store to your hotel. Most of them all have a golf section. Two that I have recently been in are:

Yodobashi Camera Akihabara Store. The top floor is the golf section. Really neat in that there is an actual outdoor driving range on the top floor of this building. The entrance to the range is to the left if you are facing the elevators on the golf retail floor. Kind of fun to check out.

Google map of Yodobashi Camera Akiba store ==> https://goo.gl/maps/WZrf3vjQvU62

Google map of all Yodobashi Camera stores in Tokyo ==> https://goo.gl/maps/Dn6zHr7oN1p

Bic Camera Yurakucho Store. The golf section is in the basement (B1 or B2 - I forget which). This store is right next door to the Yurakucho JR rail train station on the Yamanote line and is also easy walking distance from the Tokyo JR Rail station.

This should keep you more than busy checking out Japan golf equipment.

You can find lot's of clubs, bags, balls and accessories that are only available in Japan, but you won’t find them to be less expensive. Usually the only thing I buy new is balls, and a new bag every other year or so. I like to keep some balls around the house that you can’t easily find in US (example Mizuno) and if I get an invite to play a private club, I usually give the host a few sleeves as a thank you. Be surprised how many return invites I get! What I really like to do is scrounge for good used stuff. There’s a good market here for lightly used quality clubs. I'm in Japan right now and was in Kyoto this weekend. I stopped in one of my honey holes, and found 3 Vokey 2015 model forged wedges that looked pristine and were at a good price. Almost decided to buy and flip them here in the classifieds.

Used club stores are a little harder to come by. Golf Partner is by far the biggest, they're literally everywhere. Golf Do's and Golf Effort have a lot of used clubs as well. Some Golf 5's had used clubs. The Golf Effort's I went to also had tons of Scotty stuff, if you're into that.

There's also a fun Mizuno store in Tokyo with a golf floor and hitting bays one floor above that. They have some cool Japan-only Mizuno stuff.

I love going into the used shops more than places like Victoria. Found my Yamada putter in a random shop in Fukuoka of all places for cheap. Not crazy cheap but cheaper than any listing I could find online or on the Bay.
