Slazenger Raw

I went into Golf Galaxy yesterday and they had a TON of Slazenger stuff in there. I realize it's because they were purchased by Dick's, but I thought that maybe Dick's would just kind of keep they're crappy stuff at Dick's and let GG go on being real golf equipment. Guess not.

 

Oh, and I HATE that commercial. Girl= hot, but the rest of it is worthless.

It absolutely astounds me that these commercials are on PERIOD. All we keep hearing about is how golf sales are down and the game is shrinking overall. I realize that Dick's owns these balls, but I would have to think the cost of these commercials exceeds the sales of "Raw" balls for the year.

 

I thought the original was bad, but at least you could follow the, er, "plot." This one is just bizarre, cheesy, disgusting, and the plot line is confusing at best. It's like porn without the porn... :yes:

Yeah that is one annoying commercial. The only good thing is the black panther (jaguar).

 

But on a brighter note...as a result of the Slazenger Raw marketing machine and The Golf Channel I have decided to change my bag entirely. I'm going with the Hammer driver, with the matching Zolex fairway woods, while wearing a Swing Glove topped off with my Raw balls. (Okay that last part sounded a little too personal, guess I better get that checked out).

Honestly, Raw Distance is not a bad distance ball and compares well to other balls in the same price range, and even better than some which are more expensive. For example, I found it softer than the 07 Cally HX Hot 2 piece distance ball now that was a rock!

 

What gets me about the commercials is that so many find them bad, and still they continue to work with the theme. I have to wonder what kind of marking data and focus group comments they are getting that send them down this road.

 

Personally, I thought the Sopranos connection of the older commercials was funny.

Oddly enough my friend in high school enjoys playing Slazengers...

Every time he tees off, I say "Give em the usual cause THAT'S ALL WE GOT HERE!"

That commercial is just terrible. Who gives a damn how far you hit it? The two jokers are exactly the types I would NEVER want to play with. Except the first time I broke 80, I played with two guys exactly like that. It was great for my own focus.

 

But for some reason, the commercial that really irritates me is the Mutual of Omaha one. Where it shows some old dude trying to extract his ball from a really bad situation, and that's the Bad Day. And then the Good Day is some young kid hitting a tee shot. What bothers me about the commercial is how awful the Good Day person's swing is. I suppose its not THAT bad compared to the average golfer, but it looks just horrible to me.

 

let me tell you. . .YOUR NOT ALONE! I HHHAAATTTEEE the good day guy's swing. its like someone taught a non-golfer what a golf swing "should" look like.

This ad should be combined with The Villages, now that would be weird.

 

 

Hate them both. Interesting side note..a friend of mine's parents bought a place in the Villages and he did some research...seems that the Villages is the "city" with the highest rate of STD's in the country!! Guess the old folks believe absolutely in unprotected romping. I know where I am going to retire!

 

 

LOL! The only good thing about the commercial is the chick and she is not that hot. Dick's should have a display with her instead of the macho golfer in the black shirt.

I saw the Hyper X callaway commercial today and it has the Dick's logo at the end. They used the same animated 'ball landing two inches from the pin with a driver' thing. And Johnny Miller was in it, you could tell he was pissed that he had to be there.

Out of curiousity I went to the meat section of the grocery store, but could not find any of these golf balls.

 

I also wonder why those guys need so many golf balls at the turn.

This commercial is still being repeated ad nauseum. It's still total crap of course, but now at least it seems comical. Anybody else notice how they're buying three dozen balls...AT THE TURN?! Must've been a rough front nine I guess. This commercial has to be only one of the worst...in the history of television advertising. Slazanger, the joke is really on them. I think even the dumbest of golfers sees this ad and thinks "No thanks."
